Varian Johnson couldn't decide whether he wanted to be an engineer or a writer when he was younger, so he did both. In March 2006, his first novel, A Red Polka Dot In A World Full of Plaid, was named to the Essence Magazine bestseller list. He and his wife live in Austin, Texas, with their two cocker spaniels.
