W Stevens

We are heartbroken to learn about the passing of renowned novelist W. Stevens, Richard. His death is clearly a huge loss for the technical community, but it is also a personal one for us. Rich was a skilled colleague as well as a dear friend who will be sorely missed. We send our condolences to his family.

UNIX Network Programming (1990, 1998, 1999), Advanced Programming in the UNIX Environment (1992), and TCP/IP Illustrated (1994, 1995, 1996) are among his best-known works. Richard was born in the copper-mining town of Luanshya in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), where his father worked.
