Walter Savitch

Walter Savitch earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. In 1969, he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of California in Berkeley. Since then, he has been a member of the University of California at San Diego's faculty, where he is currently a Professor of Computer Science and the Director of the Multidisciplinary Ph.D. program. Cognitive Science is a program. Complexity theory, formal language theory, computational linguistics, and the development of computer science education materials are among Professor Savitch's research interests.

He has published a number of well-known computer science textbooks, including Pascal, Ada, and C++ CS1 and CS2 textbooks, in addition to several research articles and involvement in other editorial projects.
