William H. Smith is the author and editor of numerous books and papers in the fields of ethics, social and political philosophy, and political philosophy. Shaw is a Ph.D. holder. He holds a Ph.D. in political philosophy from the London School of Economics and currently teaches philosophy at San Jose State University, where he previously served as chair of the philosophy department for eleven years. He's also taught at the University of Zimbabwe, the University of Hong Kong, and the University of Pennsylvania. Annapolis, Maryland is home to the Naval Academy.
