William Wordsworth

William Wordsworth, author of the semi-autobiographical poem The Prelude, was born in the Lake District in 1770. An Evening Walk and Descriptive Sketches, his first volumes of poems, were published in 1793, and he met Samuel Taylor Coleridge two years later. Their joint publication of Lyrical Ballads in 1798 effectively launched the British Romantic Movement, and they became part of the 'Lake Poets' alongside Robert Southey.
