Yann Martel is the author of Life of Pi, a global bestseller that was nominated for the Man Booker Prize in 2002 and made into an Oscar-winning film by Ang Lee. He's also the author of The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios, Self, Beatrice, and Virgil, as well as 101 Letters to a Prime Minister, a collection of short stories. Martel, who was born in Spain in 1963 and studied philosophy at Trent University before turning to literature, worked as a tree planter, dishwasher, security guard, and traveled extensively. He and his wife, the writer Alice Kuipers, live in Saskatoon, Canada, with their four children.
