Between September 1991 and October 1993, Zlata Filipovic kept a diary. The Simon Wiesenthal Center presented her with the Special Child of Courage Award when it was published. She and her family left Sarajevo in December 1993, and the revenues from the book were used to start a foundation for Bosnian war victims' children.
