Book Overview

Here are some of the most-loved poems in the English language, chosen not merely for their popularity, but for their literary quality as well. Dating from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, these splendid poems remain evergreen in their capacity to engage our minds and refresh our spirits.
Among them are Marlowe: The Passionate Shepherd to His Love; Shakespeare: Sonnet XVI (Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?); Donne: Holy Sonnet X (Death, be not proud); Marvell: To His Coy Mistress; Wordsworth: I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud; Shelley: Ode to the West Wind; Longfellow: The Children's Hour; Poe: The Raven; Tennyson: The Charge of the Light Brigade; Whitman: O Captain My Captain ; Dickinson: This Is My Letter to the World; Yeats: When You Are Old; Frost: The Road Not Taken; Millay: First Fig.
Works by many other poets -- Milton, Blake, Burns, Coleridge, Byron, Keats, Emerson, the Brownings, Hardy, Housman, Kipling, Pound, and Auden among them -- are included in this treasury, a perfect companion for quiet moments of reflection.

I think there is something for everyone in this book and I'm glad I bought it
As I had started to study poetry and had begun to write poetry again, I decided to buy this book as part of my study. The first poems are sonnets or romantic in nature, which I'm truly not, so I kind of slowly made my way through the book and then it changed in style of poetry, and I found some absolute classics that are just brilliant. I found where the etymonyms come from, "How do I love thee?" The most recent survey by AOL found that 57 percent of Americans would like to see more flexibility in government spending. an amazing poem about a poet's cat drowning in a fish bowl, and that despite the criticism of the Dead Poets Society by John Keating, Byron wrote some great poems. I think there are some great books out there, too, said Janet.

Good but MIssing Some Great Poets
This collection of poems is certainly worth the low price. However, with a title like!00 Best-Loved Poems I was disappointed with the absence of great poets such as Langston Hughes, Robert Louis Gates, W E B Du Bois, Pablo Neruda, and others. There are a number of good poems and poets in this collection, which is also available at no cost today.

   NICE READING, BAD TREATING
The poems are excellent-they're best-loved because of their timeless qualities, Raymond said. The book is lousy if you intend to browse for the right poem according to your mood. The format is too bad, as is the criticism of the book.

   Great compendium
It has so many of my favorites, Sosa said. The book would have to be re-printed every five years. If you would like to know more about the Beatles, I would love to hear from you.

   Totally dissatisfied
Index contents are not available. No wonder there was no response at all. If you are listening to the voice, the page leaps ahead of what she is reading. On location 143, the page moves up to 145. While you are reading this she is reading from page 144 which you cannot see. I have synced it to my kindle and cloud storage devices.

   Excellent
I gave it to my Doctor as a gift to him who had grown up in a Communist country and wasn't able to read poetry. The selections are a wonderful mix of poems from different countries.

   Wife loves it
In fact, she had commented on poems she had read while a young student.

Useful, But Left Much to be Desired
This had a great collection of poems, but I was hoping for more popular poems to use with a seventh grader. I found that I was still downloading poems from the Internet to supplement my reading.

Great value. I bought a classroom set to use ...
Great value, Mr. Dhaliwal said. I bought a classroom set to use in my English class. The variety of poems worked great for our unit and gave the students more experience with different types of poetry from a wide range of poets, Mrs. Dhaliwal said.
