I use this series of books to reinforce skills for my four kids when they are not in school. The pages are simply and clearly laid out. The instructions are clear and simple. Because of this, all kids are able to work on these. I tear the answer pages out of the back of the books so I can check their work when they finish. The concepts are clearly and concisely explained in concise formats that the kids enjoy doing. I will continue to buy books from this series for my kids through the years.

Main Idea and Summarizing
Derived From Web , May 6, 2022
I am a school librarian and I have found this book to be very useful at the beginning of a class when I take attendance,in the middle of my class when some students are selecting books, or as a filler at the end of a class. The reading passages are short enough to fit on a smartboard, so you don't have to waste paper by photocopying. Although I have used the multiple-choice questions, I find it much better to just ask the students to write down the main idea and details to support the main idea. I have found that the students really like the reading passages.

A great review tool and skill builder to supplement direct instruction
Derived From Web , May 6, 2022
We use it every day in class. A great review tool and skill builder, it can supplement direct instruction. PDF copies posted on the SMARTBoard make for great student-centered lessons that focus on finding evidence in nonfiction texts to support main ideas and corresponding details.

Very good activities for struggling or low-level readers...
Derived From Web , Jan 13, 2022
I absolutely love the entire series. I have used them with both my low-level IEP readers and my CLDE 6th, 7th and 8th-grade middle school students. The series contains lots of simple, accessible texts and practice questions that I can use for classroom warmups, classroom examples, practice sessions, and tests.

“Answer will vary†is not a helpful answer key
Derived From Web , Jan 31, 2019
While the excercises were good, I did not like that the answer for the summary says “summary will vary,†which is not an example. A cop out.

Good questions to practice these skills. Main Idea questions are better than the Summarizing questions.
