   Really great book for kids on the spectrum (ages 7-10 or so)
I read this book with my 8-year old third grader who has ASD —very verbal, loves and excels at math and science, but has trouble with social skills. The author does a great job of capturing in the detail the behaviors of the protagonist, who is a 3rd grader named Bat by her mom as a vet and they raise a baby skunk. The book prompted so many discussions with my kid and captured all the challenges he has making friends and understanding idioms, Mrs. Pearson said. The next two books in the series are also great.

   Really cool read!
I really enjoyed this book, said Blair. My favorite part of the whole book is where the narrator says, "Bat liked that." He liked that Mr. Grayson listened to him, too, Rosalyn said. I didn't like that the narrator of the book wasn't in first person, and I wish I could change that. It would've been cool to see what was happening in his brain, said Dr. Goin. Even with time, we wouldn't be able to see what others were thinking.

   Great book for beginner chapter readers
This book is a must-have for any beginner chapter reader. This is my son's first chapter book and he really enjoyed it so much that he wanted the second book in the series. This book also teaches kids how we are all different. In fact, I would say the author does a great job describing autistic characteristics without stating how they would be dealt with. He has a severe form of autism and was so happy to identify someone like himself for the first time.

   A must read for all kids
The book helped my son tell the doctors what he could not do on his own. I was overwhelmed when my son was diagnosed with autism. It's just that he was able to put into words for the first time. Thanks to her, I can see the world a little more through his eyes. You have to put it down multiple times to get tissues, Mr. Caramore said. Beautifully written, I believe that this book should be required reading for all children.

I really, really love that kid, Bat. It's an amazing book. The first time I read it, it was because of Virginia readers choice and I've read it multiple times since. Each time we go back, it's just as good as the last.

   Must Read
My students loved it, and I have to admit, I am not a book snob. I didn't let them know that he was autistic, Mr. Dhaliwal said. Both men said they'd read it and had great discussion about how some of his struggles were relatable. It helped build empathy and understanding for everyone.

   Bat is charming!!
I read this book in one day! He has a sweet, quirky kid. His mom, a veterinarian, brings home an orphaned baby skunk who needs to be cared for until it can be delivered to an animal rescue shelter. However, the Bat has other plans, as he quickly falls in love with the foam. If you fell in love with this book, you'll never want to leave. It's a blond-haired doll with a baby face that appeals to upper elementary or middle school children. I can't wait to read this one!

   charming, low-key book
I've read this book, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. She's an advanced reader who normally reads at a 5th grade level or above, but she connected to this gentle story. His bat was a big hit.

My son has autism and his older sister has severe autism. I wanted her to read something with a "normal" kid around her age so she could see what he did with money, Hughes said. This book delivered and it held her interest, Morgenthau said. She is looking forward to reading the next volume.
