A New York Times bestseller
Has everything you'd want in a retelling of a classic fairy tale. - Jodi Picoult

In a lush, contemporary fantasy retelling of Beauty and the Beast, Brigid Kemmerer gives readers another compulsively readable romance perfect for fans of Marissa Meyer.

Fall in love, break the curse.

It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Nothing has ever been easy for Harper. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she's instead somehow sucked into Rhen's cursed world.

Break the curse, save the kingdom.

A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn't know where she is or what to believe. But as Read More chevron_right

One of the best retellings of beauty and the beast I have read!
I really enjoyed the book, Morgenthau said. The way the characters interacted was very well done. There were times when I was frustrated with both Rhen and Harper, and then there were other times when I cried for them. This writer knows how to build an emotional response in the reader. I would have liked more information on the two antagonists in the book to help me understand more of their motivations, it was a very enjoyable read! Yes, I will be picking up the next book in the series. The characters are believable and sympathetic, and the story won't let you go once you start.

   Wonderful Fairytale Retelling
Based on the book, I would highly recommend this to anyone seeking a good fairytale adaptation. Complex characters and storylines. You may also want to consider The Girl in the Glass Box by Andi Adams and The Fairytale's Daughter by Carolyn Swanson. He added: "I am always surprised to discover that when the world seems darkest there exists the greatest opportunity for light."

   Love it
I have only read the first one, but it was a fun one. It's a Beauty and the Beast story, but it doesn't try too hard. It kept me engaged throughout the entire time," Blair said. I see so many mixed reviews of this book, and it's super hyped up so I was afraid I would be disappointed. It was worth the hype, Tunick said. It was great to see the movie again and again, said Blair. I've always loved the main character because she was strong, smart and very caring. But the side character Grey stole the show.

   Didn't really work for me
A Curse Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer is a Beauty and the Beast retelling that I was really looking forward to reading because I was hoping to enjoy it as much as everyone else. I really struggled with the slow pace of the writing, and how the worldbuilding felt uneven because the heroine is from a modern world who gets transported to a fantasy setting. I just felt that the story didn't really have a good flow, and I kept bumping out of the book, she said. Sad that I couldn't really get into this because I was hoping to find a fairy tale to love.

   Its been a while
I haven't read a young adult book I'm not that excited about yet. Everything has felt so simple _ no layers, no surprises, just ehh. Not this book, it's layered in story and I certainly didn't see that ending coming, he said. Even though it was a bit of a cliffhanger, it didn't feel like one, and I couldn't help but smile. I'm not a huge fan of Dr. Goin's work, but I have a few books on my TBR. Thanks for the tip.

   Beautiful
I finished the book in two days, which is very impressive. Beautifully written, character building was superb, the world building was great and enchanting, and the story line was amazing with lots of oats and turns, said Frank Spottiswood. New Zealand’s favourite novelist, Phil Hughes, said: “Book two arrived in three days and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

   Beauty and the beast retold
It's just a version of beauty and the beast with a twist and instead of a beautiful intelligent village girl we get a girl with cerebral palsy from the known dimension transported to a dimension where magic exists. Her motives are in spite of her intentions, but the bravery is uncompelling and rash, Raymond said. Yes, I don't buy it. The second half of the show focuses on the development of the character of Rhen and Gray. Overall, we need more work, said Dr. Goin.

   Very good story.
I've always enjoyed the retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It was a lot of turmoil, but I felt the ebb and flow of Harper as well. I'm so excited to be working with Simon and DB on the next book, The Black Dahlia. It's just that I cannot wait. Blair said: "There is a certain degree of skepticism about the CIA's motives."

   Worth the read
It took me a long time to read this book, but it was worth it. He is loyal and funny, Levine said. I am still not sure about Harper's parentage.

A tale with Darkness old as Time...
I need a moment, Taylor said. I absolutely LOVE this story, Margaret. The Kemmersr brought me into a world of magic and secrets that had my jaw open when the change happened to a certain secret that threatened the kingdom of Emberfall, Prince Rhen, Harper, and the Commander Grey. I can't wait for the next installment because that ending had me forcing my screams down to weird sounds, shaking my phone, and wondering if I'm sane haha.
