Great book to get kids involved.

Currently we have 27 backyard chickens! I know that we are crazy! It has a series of fun activities that you can do with your chickens. There are different chicken treat recipes, directions on how to give them a bath and even science experiments with eggs to do. This is a great resource for the backyard chicken owner or for someone who wants to get their children more involved in the beginner - chicken lifestyle. It even comes with a poster that you can fill to tell all about the chickens that you own. This was a big hit with my girls. I think they showed everyone that came over for weeks after they received the book.

I bought this book as a beginner - chicken owner. It may be geared for children, but it had some great knowledge in it! I often refer back to it to get ideas for my chickens and I am 35. Great color photos and stories to help explain and understand the world of chicken keeping.

I bought this for my 6 year old, advanced reader who loves chickens! We were in the process of preparing for our chickens, reading a lot of books and articles, and he wanted something he could read as well. I do this book is geared towards children a little older, but with some help with a few words by 6 year old is able to understand everything in this book. We have used this book to answer questions about our chickens as they come up, and believe that it is more clear and better than many of the adult guides we've read.

I wish I had found this book before I got chickens, but even after I had a few flock for 2 years, I found this book interesting and useful enough that I bought my own copy after borrowing it from my library. I'm cheap, so my saying is saying something. My husband dragged me into this chicken business and now we're both nuts and spoiled our little brats happily. This book claims it is for children, but is actually for anyone. A style of writing that speaks to no one.

And gives practical chore ideas for children, telling them how to cook for the chickens, and has arts and crafts and cooking ideas with the recipes they can make and cook for the chickens... very cute.
