Read the New York Times bestseller that has taken the world by storm
In this charming debut (People) from one of Sweden s most successful authors, a grumpy yet loveable man finds his solitary world turned on its head when a boisterous young family moves in next door.
Meet Ove. He s a curmudgeon the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him the bitter neighbor from hell. But must Ove be bitter just because he doesn t walk around with a smile plastered to his face all the time?
Behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents association to their very foundations.
A feel-good story in the spirit of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and Major Pettigrew s Last Stand, Fredrik Backman s novel about the angry old man next door is a thoughtful exploration of the profound impact one life has on countless others. If there was an award for Most Charming Book of the Year, this first novel by a Swedish blogger-turned-overnight-sensation would win hands down (Booklist, starred review).

   What a blessing
I am reading his other book after listening to this one fromAudible. I can empathise with his feelings of being old and useless, having just lost a husband less than a year ago. This book has been a blessing to me.

BEST BOOK EVER! Would give it 10 stars if I could!
This is the best book I have ever read. And I read a lot. The writer is young and has a fresh voice. Oves annoy us so much that we don't appreciate their charm and ability to grow and change with a little bit of love. I ordered all of Backman's books immediately. The movie A Man Called Ove was coming to town a few days after I finished reading it. I was worried that I might be disappointed in the screen adaptation because I loved the book so much. If you have read the book, the movie follows it and you can almost get by without subtitles. I pre-ordered a copy of the movie on Amazon. It will be released on December 27th. Don't miss the movie or book!

Everything in the neighborhood is black and white for Ove. He has an opinion about everything. The Housing Association is run by him and his friends, and they are the first two couples to buy houses in the culture-de-sac. Ove tried to kill himself many times. He wants to be with his late wife, but his attempts seem to be stymied by his neighbors. The story of Ove begins and life continues.

   A likable curmudgeon
Good friends recommended this book to me. I thought this was so predictable when I started to read it. As I read more, it became just wonderful. The author's writing makes you a part of the book. I loved reading A Man Called Ove. The way in which the characters related to one another was delightful even though I knew what was going to happen. Ordinary people are trying to get by in this picture. Ove lost his wife, love of his life and the only light in his otherwise dreary existence. Immigrants will not leave him alone and will walk with him. Even though he's a terrible grouch, you still take him up into your heart and admire him even though you don't like him. The book is light and easy to read.
