I understand the hype completely now
Derived From Web , Feb 1, 2021
Now that I am caught up, it is going to be hard to wait until I can get to the finale. Eventually, I understand the hype, love, and enthusiasm for Tahir's world. It is funny because I listened to the first two on the audiobook, so when I saw the names of people I had no idea how to spell them. Tahir delivers shocks and heartbreaking moments continuously delivering a book about duty, the promises we have made and the consequences we have wrought. Make us cruel, expose edges and sharpening them. But is there a way to escape this? When we are only limited by our own will, what lines will we draw and obey? To let others die for our crimes, the empire, the revolution and freedom.

Heartbreaking as it builds distant hope!
Derived From Web , Feb 4, 2019
Here is my review for A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir, the third but not final book in An Ember in the Ashes series. I love how the book opens with the point of view of Nightbringer! The author gives us an insight into the kingdom's history and at present time the scholars are extinguished, but we see that in the past the scholars have done the same to the Jinn, the Nightbringer's people. Very interesting and so much like the harsh reality in which we live. Laia's fate and Elias'future hold mystery. Livia, as Blood Shrike, stands steadly by her sister Helene's side. Learning more about Keris and her past was fascinating, as was learning more about Laia's mother's story. Because of his kindness and his tremendous strength, Elias gives up everything to help others. Reaper at the gates hurts my heart, but builds up a distant hope for the amazing characters, 5 stars!

It just kept getting bad

The first book I loved and couldn t wait for the second book. Im not sure why the book has deviated from Elias, Helena and Keris. They made the book an excellent read. See where Im going with this, I couldn t stand Laia and her storyline. I just skim through her chapters and couldn t wait to see what happened with Elias and Helena. I personally would have loved to read some chapters on Keris and Marcus. If there is a book four, I don 't think I will buy it especially at the $8-$10 price range. 4 stars are for the first two books that carry the last book.

Not what I expected, not what I wanted

All YA writers seem to be amping the gruesome'. This book did not deliver the emotional development and further buy-in of the previous two books.
