Reading through 3 very late nights, I was very late. Decades of science were rebuilt in a captivating storytelling style. We are Charlesismatic scientists, who come to know and cheer by the end. Awards lifetime, personal sacrifice, moral courage, perseverance, faith. I walk away from this book with a sense of how deeply generous a gift to humanity was the launching of this vaccine.

This book is more about the history of mRNA, adeno-vectored and recombinant vaccines than it is about COVID vaccine. It describes the individuals who discovered the commercial technology and those who have created the companies to advance science to an underlying product. It almost ignores this huge undertaking, first by BARDA and then by Operation Warp Speed, in bringing the vaccine in less than 11 months to the public.

Finally, I understand what goes on with COVID and the vaccines! This is an absolutely fabulous book, not only because it looks like a novel, but also because it provides an easily understandable picture of vaccines generally, the COVID - relationship to AIDS and what scientists have been doing for the last two years. Each of the characters are compelling and you gain real insight into their motivations. Zuckerman takes very sophisticated scientific topics and makes them easy to understand and elegant. This should be a must read for anyone who is looking to be vaccinated, is thinking about the next pandemic or wants to know what is going on with our brave new world. The best book I have ever read in years!
