As a child in the late 1800s, Horace Pippin loved to draw: He loved the feel of the charcoal as it slid across the floor. He loved looking at something in the room and making it come alive again in front of him. He drew pictures for his sisters, his classmates, his co-workers. Even during W.W.I, Horace filled his notebooks with drawings from the trenches . . . until he was shot. Upon his return home, Horace couldn't lift his right arm, and couldn't make any art. Slowly, with lots of practice, he regained use of his arm, until once again, he was able to paint--and paint, and paint Soon, people--including the famous painter N. C. Wyeth--started noticing Horace's art, and before long, his paintings were displayed in galleries and museums across the country.

   Horace Pippin Treasured
Horace Pippin's story is LOVE! WELL TOLD, but I wanted to see HIS artwork his paintings ''. I was so disappointed that more originals were not included by H. Pippin. But the originals are so unique and evocative, especially from a young person's view. SO GLAD I READ IT and thank the authors.

   Awesome Book! Horace Pippin’s story is truly inspirational
Book is awesome! Horace Pippin's story is truly inspirational, his determination and creativity heart-warming. Pippin loves to draw and that is exactly what he did, sharing his artwork with everyone he came in contact with, including his army friends. The author presents his story in a way that spans the life of the subject, but does not fill the reader with unnecessary details. The illustrations are presented with a scrapbook feel, adding visual depiction to the artist's life story with his own style of artistry. I will never forget the suffering, and I will never forget the sunset. I came home in my mind with all of it, and I particularly enjoyed how the author inserted quotes from the artist through the story. Pippin did not allow his future circumstances to control his current journey. When problems presented themselves, he sought alternative measures to push forward.

This is a wonderful book about art, perseverance and following your dreams. I was not familiar with Horace Pippin, but now I am glad that I am. This is a beautifully written and illustrated book about an African American artist and his amazing life. I truly enjoyed reading and sharing this with my third graders, as we have been studying African Americans and reading a variety of biographies.

   Interesting and informative with great art.
This book is very informative, well researched and thoroughly developed. The art work and the art selections are excellent choices. I shared the book with my pre-service teachers, friends and art teachers. It would be a great center for a unit or project at the intermediate level of learning. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and finding out about the life of an artist from my city. It is integrated with ancient information and facts and details of the artist's life that I found to be authentic.
