Book Overview

Acclaimed epic fantasy author John Gwynne returns with the first book in a new trilogy, perfect for fans of George R. R. Martin, Brandon Sanderson, and David Gemmell.

A Time of Dread reminds me of why I became a fantasy enthusiast in the first place. -- Robin Hobb

A race of warrior angels, the Ben-Elim, once vanquished a mighty demon horde. Now they rule the Banished lands, but their peace is brutally enforced.

In the south, hotheaded Riv is desperate to join the Ben-Elim's peacekeeping force, until she unearths a deadly secret.

In the west, the giantess Sig investigates demon sightings and discovers signs of an uprising and black magic.
And in the snowbound north, Drem, a trapper, finds mutilated corpses in the forests. The work of a predator, or something far darker?
It's a time of shifting loyalties and world-changing dangers. Difficult choices need to be made. Because in the shadows, demons are gathering, waiting for their time to rise. . .

   Another amazing start
If you' ve read The Faithful and Fallen series, you' ll read this as well. I had to wait a while for my emotions to calm down. This group of characters gets you emotionally involved from the very first few pages, and keeps you in turmoil. I don't know how John Gwynne does it, but he has a gift for creating loveable, hateable, and always memorable characters, from giants to crows. I can almost guarantee that a binge read will occur if you take a chance, starting with Malice.

   Gwynne strikes again with...
The first book in the Of Blood and Bone trilogy is called Banished Lands and it is a very exciting and dark book. Gwynne took a darker tone to the first entry. I liked the new characters and the one returning one. This is a continuation of the Faithful and the Fallen series and has been going on for over 100 years. The plot and story did justice to the original plot while also solidifying its own identity. I want to keep the story going by picking up book two right away.

Excellent Beginning To A New Chapter In The Banished Lands
A Time of Dread was finished by John Gwynne. I love this world so much that it was hard to return to it. There are new characters that are going to steal my heart as they journey across the land in their quest to right the wrongs and root out evil. There are a lot of questions. Who is correct about the merging of the mortal and immortality races? Who will take control of the people? Will humans and giants fight beside each other as equals or slaves and thralls? Will deaths be avenged? Love can blossom in times of turmoil. Is jealousy and pride bad for certain characters? What is the book's release date? John created a world that I can completely immerse myself in.

   A great start
A great start to the new series. If you haven't read the 4 books in the Faithful and the Fallen series, you shouldn't read this. The events described in Wrath Bk take place 100 years after. A new setting and characters is introduced to the reader. Are you still waiting for something? Waiting for the next big fantasy from a favorite writer? Satisfy that itch with the great series. You should be happy that you did.
