When Mona the Mouse stumbles across the wondrous world of the Heartwood Hotel in the middle of a storm, she desperately hopes they'll let her stay. As it turns out, Mona is precisely the maid they need at the grandest hotel in Fernwood Forest, where animals come from far and wide for safety, luxury, and comfort. But the Heartwood Hotel is not all acorn souffl and soft moss-lined beds. Danger lurks, and as it approaches, Mona finds that this hotel is more than a warm place to spend the night. It might also be a home.

It has been their favorite book all year. The story is great and really hones in on the message of kindness and friendship which we needed to work on in our room. You can really use this for some teaching moments and the kids were really into the story and characters, Sosa said.

Unexpectedly good

I ordered it on a whim, Mr. Dhaliwal said. We're in a reading slump, and needed some new material, Hollingworth said. Both my boys loved it and we're sad every night when I finish a chapter. It was wholesome and the perfect amount of action and suspense to keep their attention, he said. I'm very excited to be reading the next two.

Such a sweet story!
Derived From Web , Jul 19, 2019
I bought this book on a recommendation from a friend and I'm thrilled with the outcome. My littles and I do read bedtime stories, and this book is so sweet and magical. I fell in love with the gentleness as well. My daughter absolutely loves animals and this book was her first read aloud. In this enchanting story, the shy mouse befriends a young princess and her quest to find her true home. There are several other stories in this series that are worth waiting for.

Emily Ratliff agrees with Gillian on one point: The Beatles were right. Whether you're 8 or 68, this is a satisfying read. We're thrilled to be sharing this book with our long-distance granddaughter and grandmother book club. Can't wait to start Book 2 and find out what little Mona the mouse and the staff and guests of Heartwood Hotel will be up to next!

Very sweet book. My 8-year-old daughter loved it
Derived From Web , Mar 18, 2018
It was the first time I had brought it home with me and she loved it. The book is well written and has some challenging vocabulary. The book is full of valuable lessons about honesty and facing your fears. One of the best children's chapter books we've read in a long time.

I was so pleased to find a book where the main characters weren't ...
Derived From Web , Dec 29, 2017
We had a late dinner last night because my kids begged me to keep reading. I was so pleased to find a book where the main characters weren't being rude to adults or calling everyone stupid or dumb, and the descriptive language made it easy to envision the Heartwood Hotel, Eisenberg said. I'm also pre-ordering book three!
