A visual feast
Derived From Web , May 16, 2022
It isn't often that I call visual feast '', but DK's Aircraft's Definitive Visual History is just that. Aircraft details begin from before the 1920s and all the way to the present in the historical evolution of aircraft from humble beginnings to the industry that it is today. It is not limited to just the aircraft, but also dedicates space for the innovators who have changed the flight game. This book is huge and definitely meant for the coffee table '' for guests to browse and with its generous amount of pictures it is a pleasant way to pass the time, but it also has enough information that it can be used as reference material. Very well done and one of the easiest 5-stars I have ever given.

Another fine effort for DK publishers
Derived From Web , May 16, 2022
DK Books makes some of the best large format picture books on the market, sort of a British version of Taschen Books. Here the book is not an exhaustive history of aviation, nor does it intends to be. Rather, it is a visual feast of a fine accounting of an overview of history. If one is familiar with DK books, they will recognize the consistency with this. Big and bold with glossy color and bw photos paired with an interesting narrative and then matched with high-quality materials makes for a very collectible coffee table book. Together with Car, this book sells The Definitive Visual History of the Automobile, another winner of DK. This would be a great two-fer for any enthusiast. Recommended :

very light on the Dreamliner
Derived From Web , May 16, 2022
Similar to DK books, there are great illustrations and is a beautiful coffee table book. It seemed that the number of pages were fairly light compared to what I used in 320 pages, and there was very little on the Boeing Dreamliner, which was disappointing. The two exclusive prints are a bit gimmicky, although they are 8.5 x 11 '' prints.

Another DK Tour de Force
Derived From Web , May 16, 2022
I have purchased dozens over the years and none have failed to impress. Like other DK coffee-table books on similar subjects, it is broad, but rather shallow. It contains basic photos very nice information about hundreds of airplanes and helicopters. Certain famous ones also rate two-sided spreads. There are also a lot of beautiful little feature blurbs and image about various components, prominent manufacturers and famous personalities. In all, a very satisfying visual-written overview of aviation history for the general-interest reader. Not likely to please experts or those with deep interest in the subject.

A Gift
Derived From Web , Feb 28, 2022
My son checked this book several times at school and was upset that the library wouldn 't let him check it out again. I bought it for him, he's happy. He loves learning how it all began and how planes have evolved due to demands or needs.

My 65 Y/O Dad loves it! Text next to pictures is small.. FYI
Derived From Web , Jan 15, 2022
He bought it for my father, he's 65, he loves it. I understand the people who are complaining about the size of the print. The text is very small next to the pictures, but the main text is easy to read.

Britain First
Derived From Web , Jan 14, 2022
Like so many DK books, however, its editors hail from a parallel universe, where the BritsEuropeans invented everything from television to baseball. Case in point the Wright Flyer, the aircraft that ushered alone in the age of powered flight, is nothing more than an 18th page corner note with two sentences of copy. Let this sink in. And at the same time, European planes and designers get two-sided spreads throughout the entire time.

Great book/BAD packaging
Derived From Web , Dec 17, 2021
For my dad, a great book was ordered for Christmas. The book is great and he will love it. The packaging was well, there was none. The book was creased with another article in the box and the cover was just sliding and bent. He won 't care a bit, but I think it is too nice for a book to be damaged over something that can be prevented by simply packaging it properly. Would have been easily 5 stars if they actually packed it like they should have.

Outstanding Work
Derived From Web , Oct 9, 2021
This is one of the best reference books on aircraft that you can get. It has pictures and descriptions of almost every remarkable civilian and military plane from the pre-WWI era to the present. As is the norm for DK books, it is beautifully put together and finished and you will find yourself browsing through it on a regular basis.

Poor packaging service from Amazon
Derived From Web , Dec 9, 2020
Packing - damage occurred to the poor of the book making it look like it has been used and abused. If you throw it in a box not wrapped and with other items and the book has movement within the box, you have destroyed a new book. The book itself is intact and is exact, but is kind of sad for a gift for Christmas. I would have done it, but it looks like it wouldn t make the deadline to get another one by Christmas or the same service would happen with the next book.
