Miss the chord chart
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
I, however, miss the chord chart that they used to have inside the back cover. It is now only note by note playing best. I used this many, many years ago when I first learned guitar, so that this has probably been through several new editions since then. But one of the most helpful references was the index with finger charts for nearly any chord. Had I known that it contained no longer this, I probably wouldn't have purchased it. Instead, will have to use on-line chord references.

very good
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
My friend wanted me to teach her 8 year old son how to play guitar, so she asked a former music teacher what a good book to use and he recommended this. We got it all right, and so far I am very pleased with it. I never knew how to read music, but this book teaches to read music as you learn which string of guitar plays which note and where it is on the music staff. I learn things as I teach my little friend also. I really like this book ''. It is simple to comprehend and it is laid in a way that I don 't feel overwhelmed. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about playing playing than chords alone.

Been around for a generation
Derived From Web , Apr 2, 2020
The classic edition of this original beginner's book date back to the 1960s. When I was 8 or 9 years old, my father bought a beginner guitar for me, along with this book. I was happy to see that the book is still around in an updated edition, and I bought it as a future gift for my grandson... or someone else if he decides not to learn guitar.

Great Book for Beginners
Derived From Web , Feb 28, 2020
Fantastic book to learn music to play and read. Very simple to use, where you don 't need a teacher to help you through the book. I bought this same book over 40 years ago and I started it again for a friend who wants to learn to play.

Not the most inspiring elementary music book.
Derived From Web , May 3, 2019
This is an elementary book with pictures, fretboard diagrams and standard notation. Many of the songs are traditional songs, but others would be unfamiliar to the twelve-year-old target reader. It was designed to use song files not included and not linked, so that the learner must learn the song before they can hear it played. I doubt that any child I know would be motivated to practice without strong mentorship from a teacher or a family member. At this point, I would say that it would not be as effective otherwise.

would have been 4 stars but no sound files
Derived From Web , Oct 2, 2018
At a private teacher, I do like this book, but obtaining sound files proving to be next to impossible. Of course, you can shell 13.46 for the CD, but that seems a little unfair. Anyway, I found it in the iTunes store and purchased it and... viola... the sound files are included and actually play, but are too fast for beginners. My plan was to find these files on my laptop and use the Anytune app to slow them down, but I can 't find them on my hard drive! They are there somewhere... but I can not locate them. If you are reading this and have found these files, let me know in a review. I would say in the questions section, but for some reason I can not find the Ask - Question - Link... ugh.
