   Weird language
I also ordered this book for my toddler because I wanted to have a book with diversity and photos of fine people and the photos themselves were real. But the language I used did not sit well with me. I am a white woman and I feel like it is really strange to call people's skin colors cocoa and coffee and creamy ''? Like to show my son that way of describing peoples's appearance just did not sit right with me. And I am not sure if I was being overly curious, but I asked my friend who is black for her opinion, and she also agreed that the language is black. I think I will return this book and look for a better one.
A little too advanced for young toddlers
I was excited to receive this book to help my young toddler understand the many kinds of people we have in our community and the world. But the color descriptions of the skin tone of people is a little strange for young toddlers. I wish the book would not focus so much on naming the skin tone color as such, but instead focusing on more understandable descriptors for younger children. But I am sure that this works better for older children.
Wonderful showcase of different skin tones ♥️
It has really bright and vibrant pictures, it certainly showcases many skin colors, and the pages about there being different colors within the same family makes me so happy. It is my favorite book of the son. The book has taken quite a beating, but once it bites the dust I plan to purchase another.
Wanted to like this book, but it's weird.
I really wanted to like this book - we are a mixed family and like books that show a representation of diverse people and families. This one came off super awkward and weird just like that. It literally shows pictures of people and has words like coffee, cocoa, sandy, ivory, gold and some people are light, some are dark. I get what they were going for, but the intense focus on labeling the skin of people feels awkward. Not sure if I want my 2 year old saying, Hey that person is Cocoa.
Appeals to young children on many levels
This is my favorite book of my daughter. She is 15 months old, so that some of the content may escape her, but she adores looking at the photographs of mixed children. My daughter is a mixed race and she seems to particularly appreciate the fact that the book does indeed feature children of many different shades. I think the book is the best kind of children's book ; it discusses a complex topic at a pretty sophisticated level, using simple language that does not tax the toddler's attention.
   Love it!
My baby is fascinated by faces, different shades of skin tone, different hairs and features. Depending on the age of your baby, you can also make up stories based on the pictures. Importantly, early exposure and introduction to multiculturalism is important!
Great Book but do not also purchase Shades of People!
I love the book and I love the photos. I purchased this book and Shades of People by the same author and they are essentially identical books with identical photos, so that you do not have to order both! This is a book on board, the other is a paperback.
   My Toddler Loves It
If you are looking for a book to introduce your child to other shades of people, this is it. It is simple, baby and toddler - simple. He loves this book and begs me to read it every night and I love that it exposes my son to other shades besides mine, my husband's and his. Book is great!
Mama Representation Lacking Otherwise Great Book
My issue is that 3 of the 4 mothers shown in this book are white.
   Love this book
We borrowed this book from the library and loved it so much that we had to purchase it. I raise my children to love everyone. Racism is taught and I won 't allow this type of behavior in my family. We don 't see borders, we see and love humanity. Beautiful book teaching how we are all the same, but different.
