Fantastic history of one of the greatest corporate turnarounds in history
Growing up in the Detroit area, I have seen Ford both at their worst and their best. This reads more like an intrigue novel than a history lesson and holds your attention really. This, combined with Once Upon a Car and Taken for a Drive, is some of the best auto industry books I have ever read.

   Couldn't Put It Down
I am a member of a small stock club that invested in Ford when the price plummet. I can 't imagine how Ford made the turn around, while GM and Chrysler had to be saved by the government. The source of this answer was Alan Mulally in the American Icon. It shows America how stuck Ford Motor Company was in the 1900s and how his stick-to-it mentality, planning, luck and intelligence drew Ford through. It was not a solo effort, but included the support of the Ford family, especially Bill Ford and a group of locked-in senior management in the past. The fact that it was completed with as little adaptation to any specific employee group was amazing and said a lot about real Mulally. The shared sacrifice by all, including the Union, was a masterful stroke of genius, driven by Mulally through intellect and personal interest in all who shared the fate of FORD. A great read that made me go back and start it again.

A Must Read Both for Entertainment and Leadership
This is the best business book I have ever read. I am not sure who I am more impressed with Bryce Hoffman or Alan Mulally. This is written so, that it does in fact read like fiction. I would say it is an inspirational must read for bettering yourself in this world-certainly for becoming a better leader.

How to Succeed Without Government Help
The late 2000s saw the storm of the late 2000s with Captain Ford leading the ship through some pretty rough waters. What is most impressive is that they put together a plan and implemented it, not so much with government assistance, but in spite of it. Imagine how great our country could be if we invoked all this same process of togetherness and less individual power?

Superb pacing, intriguing personal insights and very valuable business lessons.
I actually enjoyed reading this book, to the point where I really felt I was in some of the important meetings that Ford saved recently. I am surprised that the author had as much inside information as he did, but I'm glad that he did. Business lessons are valuable and even for non-technical types are plain to understand.

   Thank you Alan
As a corporate 21-year veteran of Ford Motor Company, I could appreciate this story and see what Alan had to change. I left Ford 22 years ago, but we all knew the culture sucked. God Alan came along and got it done for a great American company.

It's not just about the turn around. It's about auto history.
As many of them mentioned in their previous reviews, reading this book is like watching an edge of the seat thriller. When you bought this book, you might have thought that it spells only the period after 2004. The introductory chapters give a glimpse of the automotive industry almost a century ago. The book revolves and teaches a single aspect, the culture and tone at the top sets everything. If you were a close follower of the Ford and Automotive industry, you would know the various characters involved in the entire timeline, making all reading more understandable and meaningful. I give a 5 star rating to this book and recommend each budding entrepreneur to learn the way an organisation needs to be shaped and sometimes with an iron fist as you are the captain of the ship. Bryce thanks for such an extraordinary compilation of historical archives and current trends.

A brilliant insight into the Ford Motor Company during the Recession of 2006.
I enjoyed this brilliant insight into the corporate world of a major multi-national company thoughfully. As a reader, I was so fortunate to hear what happened during an amazing period of change in the automotive industry, which had a lasting effect on this great country. I would definitely recommend this great book ''.
