Quiet-producing words evoking universal, deep-seated emotions. Wonderful!
Bought a second one as a gift and the recipient had the same response without telling her what my response was to Mary Oliver's prime minister.

   No one write like Oliver
I have never felt the aliveness of the world around me, especially the natural world, in any other writing than John Muir's writings. Oliver has grace and beauty to share and an abundance of love and respect for the world of nature. Her poems are really like prayers or like love.

   Too bad not more personal....
All the poems in this selection are excellent. Flying is a good example, as is the University Hospital in Boston. The added verses take away the power of the poem.

   Superb
I adored this book and Mary Oliver has become one of my favorite poets. She finds so much more than the physical and writes with such loving beauty-none of so many contemporary poets-that these verses were like balm. Dealing with the landscape and folk history of America, from Johnny Appleseed to Tecumseh, Oliver finds us a place where we are no longer ashamed to live.

   Great Book, Great Service
Until the news about her death, I had never heard Mary Oliver. What I saw then intrigued me, so what better place to start with her Pulitzer Prize-winning book? I bought several now to keep me lifted.

This author came recommended to me and is the first time reading her poetry, it arrived on time, even early, and I am really enjoying it.
