A wicked good tale.

This setting is unusual and intriguing. The average person doesn't know much about the Amish. The book gave insight into their life style and customs. The story is well- written and keeps the reader interested. There is a significant twist that adds to the tension. The police chief makes some critical mistakes that make you wonder how she got to be that position. Despite having several weapons at her disposal, she never seems to have them when they would do the most good, which is frustrating, but the plot depends on the errors in procedure to keep the story moving. A good fast read is Among the Wicked. Have a great time!

Great story line!
Derived From Web , Nov 27, 2020
This was my first novel, but it won't be the last. I was interested in how the story would go, as well as accuracy and respect for the beliefs of the Amish. I found the basic Amish traditions depicted and respectfully treated. A very dramatic ending. Can't wait to read more of her books and hope the truth, respect, and thrills continue.

Main character too self absorbed.
Derived From Web , Nov 20, 2020
I' ve read all the books by the author, and I can say that Kate is very self- centered. I don't see how the relationship with Tomasetti can continue. Everything Kate does is related to her job. She is becoming more disliked.

There’s murder and mayhem afoot
Derived From Web , Feb 6, 2020
This one is much more than thought. A cult, an egomaniacal Amish " bishop," a dirty cop, human trafficking, rape, torture, and murder make this an often compelling read. Kate has been thrown to the wolves by Ms. Castillo in the midst of frigid northern New York near the Canadian border, to solve a mystery. You will be on the edge of your chair with this one.

Among Castillo's best
Derived From Web , Oct 2, 2017
4.5 out of five stars. Although there are many choices in the police procedural genre, I enjoy Castillo's series for its well- done crime yarns and also for its glimpse into Amish culture and life. In both cases, Among the Wicked succeeds. An innovative plot, twists and turns to keep one guessing, and a new take on Amish life make this one of Castillo-s best. My only complaint is that the personalromantic relationship with the main character is shallow and predictable. This is a police story and not good literature. The part is meant to end the story. A superb entry into this genre would be taken away by the unrealistic dialog and predictable story line.

Intriguing
Derived From Web , Jul 29, 2017
I tried to read s-l-o-w-l-y for as long as I could, but it was too long. Kate Burkholder, the Chief of Police, goes out of town to investigate the death of a young teen in an Amish community, not for a nice holiday but to find out how it happened. Linda Castillo's characters were meant to portray the sinister ones and the Amish ones, so I enjoyed them. I like Burkholder, a strong willed policewoman. I know these stories are fiction, but I think of the Amish people differently. It was read by someone who was fascinating, scary and wonderful. Castillo's next story is something I look forward to.
