Great place to start

I received this book a few days ago so that this is an early review. I am not aware of any other similarly accessible books for a popular or non-academic market ''. Overall, this is a very useful book and a good tool for launching your research into Mesoamerican religion. I give it four stars instead of five, because I would have liked the book to be stratified by culture. As it stands now, deities, symbols and concepts organized alphabetically over Mesoamerica are simply delineated.

Great Book, But...

Great book, but I recently noticed that pages 177 through 188 were duplicated, so that I am missing all entries after Xiuhcoatl was on page 188. I don 't know if this happened only to my copy or not. It is past the time to replace it, but it would be nice to have a replacement that includes the missing pages free of charge, since I shouldn't have to check for missing pages after receiving a book. The issue of update has been resolved.

Our great grandson has an interest in the Mayan and ancient history of Mexico. Insomuch as the Mayans and Coweta Creek, a fact not usually known, are engaged in trade and cultural exchanges, this book is an excellent resource.

What a spectacular book! This book is a must if you are interested in the mythology of the Aztecs, Mayans, or other Mesoamerican civilizations. It is profusely illustrated with black and white line drawings and photographs and written in an easy to understand text that covers just about everything you could ever want to know. I learned a great deal from using this book and you will too. This is certainly a book to add to your library.

Beautiful, well researched and well illustrated book on major Meso-American pre-contact deities and paradigms. I recommend a copy of Burning Water or A Scattering of Jades '' for some Aztec poetry.
