   Bound by the beauty
In this epic play, subtitled a gay fantasia on National Themes, we follow the lives of a small group of people battling AIDS, love and the meaning of forgiveness. Walter has AIDS, and his lover Louis leaves him because he can not handle it. Prior is later visited by the Angel, who deems him a prophet, but what? Louis meets Joe, whose marriage is collapsing, and the two find solace in each other. Roy Cohn is one of the most powerful men in America, so he can not have AIDS because that would be a sign of weakness. He has cancer instead. Angels in America is a fantastic meditation on love and politics in the early years of the AIDS crisis, which still has relevance today with its message of greater love and acceptance.
Does justice to a great play.
This is my favorite game. Tony Kushner gave a heart-wrenching story and this completed version brought it even closer to perfection. There have been some noticeable changes made, especially to Part 2 Perestroika, but I think they all work to the overall advantage of the story. The two scenes cut from the original published version are still available in the back. For someone who claims not to care for intros, he makes beautiful book of them. The cover is very sturdy, the book itself is beautiful and the pages have held through three read-throughs so far as I carry this book across town like a security blanket and read it everywhere from the breakfast table to waiting rooms to my local park. The most satisfying purchase I have made yet. I recommend this to anyone who needs their heart broken and/or healed, or just has space on their bookshelf.
A MUST-SEE for everyone out there...
The Star Power roster is truly unmatched, while the Mike Nichols direction is stellar! In my opinion, Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson have delivered the absolute best performance of his career in filming this made-for-TV film, while Patrick Wilson also managed to walk the line of great looks with brilliant acting... Of course, all this cinematic marvel would never have taken place if it hadn't been for Tony Kushner's brilliant script! Especially because it is somewhat based on real events and characters...
   A Contemporary Classic
This was and continues to be one of my favorite games of all time. The subtitle describes exactly what the play is about : A Gay Fantasia on National Themes. Bear in mind that this play takes place in the mid 1980s, when President Reagan was in office and the new Millennium is approaching a time of uncertainty. Some call it an AIDS play, but is much more than that. It is about love, betrayal, abandonment, religion, forgiveness, friendship and the supernatural. The dialogue can be bad, but that does not mean it's preachy. The use of words by Mr. Kushner are quite exquisite. Probably my favorite scene of the play occurs in part 2 of the play when the character Harper is alone in the Mormon Center and she receives advice about life from an interesting source. The play is worth revisiting after 23 years since its world premiere at the Eureka Theatre Company in San Francisco, CA.
   Still great!
One of the great American plays is : I don 't think I've read anything as broad in its vision and as well written as Angels in America.
A Definitive Edition of Angels in America
Angels in America is one of the most important plays to emerge from the tragedy of Aids in the late twentieth century. This edition contains the most current versions of the two plays that comprise Angels in America, Millennium Approaches and Perestroika, presented by playwright Tony Kushner. I have never been fortunate enough to have ever experienced a live performance, but reading these plays have whetted my appetite.
   Angels In America
Probably last summer Danielle read Angels and I hadn 't stopped hearing about it since then. Then it was revived on Broadway and I still didn 't stop hearing about it. Complex, raw, emotional, I really enjoyed it.
Plays aren’t always a good read. This one is.
I can image the original table read with the actors loving the words they are going to speak and all the tech folks in the outer circle gasping at the outrageous technical demands of a stage direction after another.
   Good tead
The characters were delineated well. I enjoyed reading this story ''. Its too bad that it was a time when AIDS was not managed well.
It is now July. Still '', I think. Don 't. Know ''. The split scene sequences were well done and influenced the relationships. And hey, I liked the ending. I can 't say that it has been my favorite bit of drama that I have yet to read, but it is not either big or bad. Just be sure to hold on to your big girl panties.
