   Helped with tantrums!
We got it because she is 13 and started spattering tantrums. She is already familiar with yoga breathing, so this kind of reinforced some of the techniques she is already familiar with and gave us something to refer to when she starts training herself to remind her that she can be the boss of her own emotions. When she starts expressing strong emotions, I can just point out that she is acting like an angry octopus. This hits her, and she tries really hard to keep her emotions in check.

A great tool for helping understand and deal with anger appropriately..
After our divorce, my 5 year old son was having anger problems, so I turned to books for help. The Angry Octupus is a great tool to teach children of many ages to relax, to slow down and eventually to work through their anger and anxiety. I learned myself from it. I love this book so much that I have borrowed it out and suggested it to many friends. This should be included in every home, school and counseling office as a resource for children, parents and teachers alike.

... he did not understand it too well I really like the story
I purchased this for my son and though he did not understand it too well, I really like the story. I think that for children who are a little older, this book will help them.

My son chose this review; he commented that he liked stretching, and he likes seashells
He commented that he liked stretching out and he likes seashells. I am not sure it was worth the money to see on a Kindle... But I am happy that my son enjoyed hearing the story.

   Great book!
LOVE this book for teaching little ones the basics of self-soothing and meditation. I bought the whole series a few years ago to have in my house and my grandchildren often listen to the audio and read along.

Beautiful, in-depth calming/breathing/relaxing techniques to help children & adults!
First of all, Yes-this is a rather wordy book. However, in great detail it describes how to relax the body and works on breathing exercises. It is a very in-depth look at anger and how a child can calm themselves through each part of the body. If you feel like the book is too much for one sitting, read the beginning story simply and work through one of the techniques described. Then build the next day with the same and read with the next. I felt like it as an adult and I loved it! It is a good living skill to practice with children that could help them throughout their lives! I recommend it highly!

   Best book!
I write this review as a mother of a 5 and 7 year old as well as a school social worker. This is truly on my list of the top books for children. I read this book to my son whenever he is angry or frustrated or even hyper and needs to settle down. We are now at the point where he will tell me that he is angry and wants to read the angry octopus. It is a long book, but it is meant to be taught as it is teaching children to be aware of their bodies and relax each part to ensure they are calm, cool collected and able to make choices from a good place, rather than angry. When we read this last week, I exchanged the word angry for good, and it worked perfectly. I encourage every parent and teacher to buy this book. It is not only a gift to yourself, but is also a gift to your child, who will now have the needed life skills to calm themselves when upset.

   Excellent for a therapist
A bit wordy for children who are more restless, but that is something that can be accommodated with this beautiful book!

   Too many words per page
Our children are at ages that lose interest before you finish reading each page.
