I read this to a number of 4 year olds and they all get bored. If a parent is hoping to turn a young person who wants a puppy off, but the adult does not, this is a great book to read. I find myself changing the story just so it is not such a bummer. I toss it.

It talks about children sending problem dogs away, which I don 't condone. Arthur keeps his commitments, but pets are a life commitment.
