The third book in the Backpack Explorer series from the Editors of Storey Publishing invites budding naturalists to head outside for a walk -- in the woods, a park, or right in their backyard -- to spot feathered friends. Backpack Explorer: Bird Watch leads kids aged 4 and up through the basics of birding, from identifying common birds to learning about habitat and migration and listening for bird songs. The pages are packed with prompts and activities, including 12 interactive field guides (for common birds, nests, eggs, tracks, and more), sensory scavenger hunts, activities such as building a bird nest, matching games, and simple discovery zone pages about food chains and the life cycle of birds. Equipped with a real magnifying glass, stickers, and a birding log for recording sightings and encounters, this book is the perfect take-along for any nature adventure.

   4 year olds loves it
I bought these for my future one year old grandsons for Christmas and they love it. I have also purchased binoculars and love to find their birds with their binoculars.
   Great Book! grandsons loved it!
What a great bird adventure book is. I purchased this book for my grandsons because I live in my yard to watch the birds. I also purchased binoculars for them. This book is educational and encourages kids to observe nature. There are activities for all. I can not say enough good things about it. I will definitely purchase more from this author, I will definitely purchase others.
   For young birders
We bought this for a 4 year old neighbor and loved it absolutely. Since then, she has had her parents hang a bird feeder in the back yard, and she can recognize and name a few birds.
The book is really well conceptualized . My 3.5-year-old girl loves it. The book is organized in short 2-4 page sections with a Merit badge sticker for each section. Sections are nicely mixed-expressed sections are nicely separated. Birds, eating, raptors, plumage, vs. something simpler like eating, nesting, babies. The end of the book includes a log and habitats, which are great introductions to the concepts of birding itself. I paired this with Audubon - bird plushies with bird calls.
   Definitely recommend!
This book is amazing! Such great quality, well written and an abundance of cool information for my almost 4 year old boy, who is very much into nature and birds lately. Kept very well received his attention and he loved the little magnifying glass that came with the book. Definitely recommend.
   Sturdy cover, great illustrations
I am super impressed with this book! '' It has a cute little hard cover and even includes a beautiful durable magnifying glass! The artwork is so cute and very well done and accurate.
   Engaging on so many levels
This book is fun and engaing for a child. It has a variety of birds. It discusses what they eat, where they live, and where they find their food. Talks about how the fly and nest. Suggests games to play while reading the book, while engoying reading the book. Also has fun stickers to use to remember what birds they saw on their bird watching websites. This book is for my grandaughter, who is very smart, but has a low reading level. Content will keep her engaged, while she will be able to read this book as well.
   Perfect Gift for my Niece
My 2.5 year old niece loves birds and can already name most of the ones she sees in her backyard, so when I saw this it looked like a perfect gift to her. Right away she started excitedly pointing to the different birds and naming them. The book apparently kept her occupied on the two hour drive home. I love that this book will remain appropriate for her when she is older, too. It also has stickers. Kids love to be stickers.
