Book Overview

A New York Times best-seller

Presented for the first time with stark, stunning new coloring by Bolland, Batman: The Killing Joke is Alan Moore's unforgettable meditation on the razor-thin line between sanity and insanity, heroism and villainy, comedy and tragedy.

According to the grinning engine of madness and mayhem known as The Joker, that's all that separates the sane from the psychotic. Freed once again from the confines of Arkham Asylum, he's out to prove his deranged point. And he's going to use Gotham City's top cop, Commissioner Jim Gordon, and his brilliant and beautiful daughter Barbara to do it.

Now Batman must race to stop his archnemesis before his reign of terror claims two of the Dark Knight's closest friends. Can he finally put an end to the cycle of bloodlust and lunacy that links these two iconic foes before it leads to its fatal conclusion? And as the horrifying origin of the Clown Prince of Crime is finally revealed, will the thin line that separates Batman's nobility and The Joker's insanity snap once and for all?

Legendary writer Alan Moore redefined the super-hero with Watchmen and V for Vendetta. In Batman: The Killing Joke, he takes on the origin of comics' greatest super-villain, The Joker--and changes Batman's world forever.

Stunningly illustrated, Batman: The Killing Joke, The Deluxe Edition has been lushly re-colored by artist Brian Bolland, presenting his original vision of this modern classic for the first time.

   Batman Classic
The ultimate comic about Batman and the villain, the Joker. Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing was similar to his work on Batman and the Joker. A new coloring by Brian Bolland is amazing. A must read.

Spectacular art, vibrant colors, iconic story.
I have always been curious about this graphic novel, but never went out of my way to get it until recently. I was curious to check out the original source of the prose novel by Christa Faust and GaryPhillips after seeing the movie voiced by Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, but neither of those were my favorite Batman adventures. The story is very good and the art is great. Apparently this version is recolored and it is very enjoyable to follow along with. There was nothing to write about the extra content. If you're a big Batman or Joker fan, I think this is worth a look. I warn readers, however, that there is at least one graphic scene that needs to be limited to older Batman fans. I've been a fan for a long time, but this title is for adults.

All it takes is one perfect Joker Story
I heard that the killing joke is the best joke about the clown and I should read it. I bought the comic after reading it and learning the story was correct. I suggest you get a copy of The Killing Joker if you haven't read it before.

   Cash grab
The print quality is very good. The story itself is disappointing. A build up without a resolution. The batman seems to give up for no reason and he looks like a fool. It makes no sense.

The single greatest Batman story (may contain spoilers for different story)
I loved how they told the wife's POV in Three Jokers. It is perfect for anyone who wants to get into comics or someone who already loves comics.

Just Like The Original, But With More!!
It's better than the original one I had. Extras are deep and insightful. I can't say enough good things about the artwork. I am very happy with this purchase, and I am looking forward to the arrival of The Three Jokers, and A Death In The Family in April.

I don’t know anything about comics but it was pretty cool
I gave it to my girlfriend, who is a big Batman fan, and she liked it. Someone who knows little about comics, was pretty cool, and it is an icon from what I can understand. Extras into the characters are provided after it gives context into the comics origins.

   Pretty cool
I was told to buy it and read it, but I don't think it's for me, I'll see if someone wants it. It's just over all amazing and it's packaged nicely. I'm an artist and seeing this inspired me a lot. I'm not sure I like the front cover.

   Retouched Illustrations
The illustrations have been altered to appear more "modern" if you see the words "No Embossed cover" Some of the most well-known "strips" have been heavily altered if you are looking for lush and vivid artwork. This is a great deal at less than eight dollars for a hardcover. DC should have left the coloring and ink alone. queue insert Justice League film bashing.

   Must Have!!
I am a big fan of Joke and this comic was the best I have seen. I could not but it down. The graphics were amazing and the end was surprising.
