Better than the movie

I saw the movie years ago and it was heartbreaking, funny and awesome. I did not know that there was a book. It is even better than the movie, because you get the back story. The characters are so relatable and the story is just like life... bizarre, sad and sometimes unfair.

This is a good enough beach read, but is totally forgettable. The two dimensional characters are likable enough, but by the time you send the book back to the library, stick it on the shelf or close your Kindle app, you will have forgotten ever reading it.

Not a cohesive story. The way it jumps makes it hard to follow. I know that telling stories from diffferent character perspectives and time frames is common in literature, but is not effectively done in this book. Of the two main characters, the starlet character is difficult to believe. The book has an interesting theme, but is not well-read for reading.

I am one of the few, I think, who never read the movie, so I was excited by the chance to see the book during the quarantine. I wish I hadn 't. I could not bring myself to like either character and really did not feel any friendship between them except at the end. Not worth the time or money.

I just finished reading Beaches '' and it is WAY different than the movie. Finally I gave up comparing the two and read it just as if it was a new book. Growing up.. their marriages, their loves, their passions.

I wish I had a friendship like Cee's and Bertie had. Though it was too short, it was long in love. I read the movie but never saw the book. After seeing the remake of the movie, I decided that it was time to read the book. I enjoyed how the author added vivid descriptions of California. I enjoyed how she had some difficult arguments between the two friends, but how their true friendship lasted even during the heated times. The descriptions of the medical care that Cee would have to administer for Bertie was very good. A true friend gave up her acting career to give up the most selfless act and care for her dying friend. Even more love was shown when she insisted on raising her daughter after she died. A mature read for great adults due to language, content and subject matter. RHINDA :
