Book Overview

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELER - A panoramic experience that tells the story of Beastie Boys, a book as unique as the band itself--by band members ADROCK and Mike D, with contributions from Amy Poehler, Colson Whitehead, Wes Anderson, Luc Sante, and more.

The inspiration for the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ live documentary Beastie Boys Story, directed by Spike Jonze

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOKS OF THE YEAR BY Rolling Stone - The Guardian - Paste

Formed as a New York City hardcore band in 1981, Beastie Boys struck an unlikely path to global hip hop superstardom. Here is their story, told for the first time in the words of the band. Adam ADROCK Horovitz and Michael Mike D Diamond offer revealing and very funny accounts of their transition from teenage punks to budding rappers; their early collaboration with Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin; the debut album that became the first hip hop record ever to hit #1, Licensed to Ill--and the album's messy fallout as the band broke with Def Jam; their move to Los Angeles and rebirth with the genre-defying masterpiece Paul's Boutique; their evolution as musicians and social activists over the course of the classic albums Check Your Head, Ill Communication, and Hello Nasty and the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits conceived by the late Adam MCA Read More chevron_right

A must read for any Beastie fans
In true hip hop fashion, there are several authors who add the mic and pass chapters that give a perspective from outside the group. I loved this book ''.
   Great Book
This book is great if you have followed the band since the beginning, as it helps them understand some of the things they write. They do a great job of filling in the details for new fans, but it gels fast when you know what they are talking about before hand. It has a bit of everything, from comedy, photographs and serious moments. Enjoyed reading this very much ''.
   Damn...What An Amazing Book
There was always a reason why I loved the Beastie Boys all those years. They grew up as I grew up. They are also great authors.
   No sleep read this!
This book is made up of stories from the history of the Beastie Boys, starting from their youth and continuing to the present... it is a love letter to the late-great MCA as well as a New York City of yesteryear... excellent read for anyone interested in music, fashion, NYC and the Beastie Boys!
   I mean,'s the Beasties!
Great photos, fun stories, happy reminders of youth and freedom. Maestro, music! Hey! ''
   To bad
I've been super excited to read this but I can 't get into the way it is written. I travelled after 100 pages on the Internet.
A love letter to music and NYC
There is so much music and musical influence on these pages, that if you listen to everything they mention, you’ll really expand your library. Plus their early childhood days growing up in the 1970s rough and tumble New York City reminded me of a city that no longer exists, a Manhattan of danger and tremendous creativity, where young children were allowed to roam with any adult supervision. Add in all the guest writers, the fantastic photos, the Spike Jones cookbook and the freakin'photo gallery and you get a really special book. The audio book Tip is even better. They got a famous list of crazy friends to read. Check it out-ch-check it out.
   Fantastic Read
I write back to give a better review after he finished it. So far so good!
   Perfect perfect perfect
The PERFECT gift for a fanatic Beastie Boys is the Beastie! My sister did not even know that this book existed, so it was her favorite present.
   The audiobook is dope!
I loved reading this book, especially the audiobook version. I received both the hardcopy and the audio version. To hear the Beastie boys read their stories alone was priceless, not to mention all the other people they had read a story here and there. The book is just awesome and provides so much insight into what they came from, what was behind their music and texts and their overall experiences while coming up and touring. It is really a beautiful memorial to the MCA. You can see how much they have cherished their friendship with him and how much he is missed. This is a must for any fan of Beastie Boys.
