If 12 Step Program for Family is not doing it, try this book.
I recommend this book to anyone. Had I known about this before I was bitten by the bug. The framework provided an oasis of hope for those of us who did not find an answer with 12 step family groups. If you are not familiar with mindfulness meditation, you may find the passages disturbing. As I have begun yoga and mindfulness meditation as a way to combat the stress of the situation, this book is dovetailing very nicely for me. If you already do yoga or meditate, you may want to get this book. It's great to hear from Dr. Goin that people find it to be a well-thought-out, researched, and helpful approach. However, this report is based on science and cannot be described as academic. Oriented very strongly to a personal voice and to your own situation, he said.

One of the reasons I buy digital books is to highlight the important text. This book is taking me a long time to read because I find myself highlighting every page.

   Worth reading
I got a lot out of the book, however, I felt it was too skewed to some extent to examples of couples with addiction between them. I was looking for more help with dealing with young adults, Raymond said. I also feel it could use an update, it's just a matter of time, said Dr. Steve. The heroin crisis that is literally killing people is a bit of a different situation, Myers said. Overall, I found it helpful and would recommend it to anyone.

Must Read for Anyone Who Cares
This book is an excellent introduction to understanding and dealing with addictions of a loved one. This is all new to me, but I have been learning a lot. Pauley, one of the producers, said: "I really appreciate their presentation of the diversity of personalities and nuances of substance abuse."

A must read to change your life!
It has both views and it is very detailed, the report says. I have tried everything to help my loved one, but this method really works. Great read! The condition was used and underlined, but I liked that fact to see what others felt was important too. Only a few weeks ago did we hear about LeapFrog's new products.

Not applicable to hardcore, homeless, intravenous heroin-addicted son
He said no one was trying to take advantage of his situation. My son steals, lies and is dangerous to be around, his mom said. It may be helpful to some, but in my situation, it made me feel angry, Sosa said. His husband who out goes drinking and does coke a few times a week is a galaxy away from what I'm dealing with, she said.

Horrible, stupid, badly written, self aggrandizing, and patronizing screed.
The writers get an F by freshman English standards—they can't construct a declarative sentence, and their research is not backed by any real data. They conveniently dismiss any contrary findings by other research scientists, and take a patronizing tone with their readers that seems to assume they have never read another book or studied any other theory of addiction. Don't buy this book, it's a waste of money.

Phil and thinking you arguing with your loved one means and giving them ultimatums means you get ...
The book is saving my sanity. As a family member of a very high functioning addict who everything makes a joke and has the oh-don't-be-so dramatic attitude, this book is giving me the tools I need to understand how my previous behaviors have not been helping. You think you're arguing with your loved one means and giving them ultimatums means you get a gold star because you're not an enabler, Phil said. There is a balance, Mr. Rule told the judge.
