   Best guide for a beginner
Unlike traditional field guides that organize birds by family, this one is designed for beginners and is organized by color and within color by size. The North Carolina version was my own first field guide, and I bought the New York version for my brother who was interested in birding. Highly recommended, especially for children and for new birders.

   Very Helpful
Recently we moved to upstate NY. I placed bird feeders and could only identify 50% of visiting birds. This book, organized by primary color, lets us see the different species of woodpecker, nuthatches and the id Juncos, Titmouses, Nuthatches and the primary breeds of the woodpecker. More fun when you can find the different birds and identify a little bit about them!

   Replaced the first edition
The book has sharp photos of both male and female birds found in NYS and information about the bird's size, habits and migration information. The book is organized by bird color so that an unknown bird can be looked up quickly. I have bought earlier editions for friends and they love it too.

   Perfect for novice bird watchers
Such an easy guide for a beginner birder like myself to use! Sometimes it is hard to see distinguishing features for a newer hobbyist, but color is much easier to remember and search by which these sections of the book are separated by the color of the birds.

   Nice bird book
My children 5 and 11 have learned a lot in the short time they had, and can name twice as many birds that come to our feeders as I can.

   Great resource
Very helpful in identifying all my birds who visit my feeders, I had 3 different wood peckers. The book helped tell what each was.

Comprehensive, easy to use, great photos
I bought this for my 5-year-old who loves to watch the birds near our feeder. I read him the descriptions because he doesn't yet read them, but he does a good job of finding the birds in the book and reading them.

   Excellent content, photos, and quality
I am really impressed with the book ''. It is a small enough to use with one hand, the photos and information is vibrant and well-written, and the quality of the book is great. All the pages are laminated and durable, so it will last especially if used outside as well for years. Most of the book will be information about the birds, a full size photo of the bird on the left and all information on the right. I will see a lot just to know what birds I study.

   Perfect for backyard birdwatchers
Trying to use birds in my backyard and could not identify any bird encyclopedia that I have. It really liked it. Have the most popular neighborhood birds and small ones to carry. Liked it so much that ordering too much for my friends as their early Christmas gifts. Very pleased ''.
