In Rankin, you cannot go wrong. --The Boston Globe

A superior series. --The New York Times Book Review

Reading Ian Rankin] is like watching somebody juggle a dozen bottles of single malt without spilling a drop. --Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

Five years ago, a mysterious fire burned Edinburgh's seedy Central Hotel to ashes. Long-forgotten and unsolved, the case reappears when a charred body--with a bullet in its head--is found among the ruins. Inspector John Rebus knows that his superiors would prefer he leave things alone. He knows that part of the answer lies somewhere in a cryptic black notebook. And he knows that to solve the case, he'll have to peel back layer after layer of unspeakable secrets to arrive at the truth.

   Excellent !!
I have not read all of it yet, but I can tell you that from what I have read, I have learned a lot. The book tells the story of the Underground Railroad's early days, including the deaths of three women who refused to be sold. While some of the articles and photos in the book may be controversial and painful to some, I also believe that it is in the best interest of the reader to include them to give the reader a sense of truth as to how things actually were during that time period. Highly recommend.
Great Book for a great deal!!
It was a great deal, said James Frey, co-author of The Age of Persuasion. The ship arrived in excellent shape, the buyer said. Second, I will use them again.
   The Black Book
It's a keepsake, and I could find copies in softcover, but I was really pleased to see this 35th edition in hardback. This book will give you access to hundreds of photos and documents that belonged to Dr. Abraham. It will never happen again. The Harrisons are legendary for their witty one-liners, and for creating such a fuss.
The Black Book: 35th Anniversary Edition
I have owned and given as gifts copies of this incredible book since its original publication. There is a certain tension between the fiction and nonfiction that makes Philip Roth's book stand out. It is an unflinching look at our collective souls. With the current unfortunates leaning towards revisionist history, it is an absolute must-have for all American family libraries.
   Wonderful Book!
I found this book in the middle school library one day while searching through the shelves, and fell in love with it. I am so happy to have this and to share it with my family, Tunick said.

The book is very informative and I recommend it to anyone. I needed an item in my library. The book cover, by contrast, becomes a reference book of vital information.
Ok but original printing/binding was better
I hate buying books that were once library books and/or had some kind of label or marking that indicates the previous owner. The pictures are cut off when turning the pages. I own one of the original printed copies and it was a large paperback with binding allowing for an easier view of full-page pictures.
Disturbing, Distressing, A Must For Humans!
I was expecting stories and works by black artists, Raymond said. This includes work by masters of the macabre, including masters of the grotesque, such as Jackson Pollock and Robert Penn. He also points to the fact that at least some of the work was done by black people. It's a combination of small print and fuzzy photo copying that makes it difficult to read. This is a huge part of the American story, and should be required reading and definitely expanded on! Toni Morrison did fabulous work, although this only scratches the surface, said Mr. O'Neill. I was so moved by the outpouring of love and support, Mekhi said. It has had to be read in increments of 10 to 15 because of high emotional reaction.
This is a poor copy of the original book. However the information in THE BLACK BOOK is valuable.
I have an original copy of the book at one of my other homes. I simply wanted to add a copy of this informative text to one of my other libraries as I have already read this book. Great knowledge, but poor copy. He would not reorder unless the original book was obtained through other channels.
History of why BLACK LIVES MATTER!
Beautifully done, the book is a delight to read. There are a few extra blank pages that could have been used for more pictures, Mr. Dhaliwal said. The front page of the book is very small, making it difficult to read. It should be in all African-American households. I also think that other races who are not necessarily black will benefit from reading this book and becoming more aware of why Black Lives Matter.
