I never used to read fiction. Then one day I was in a thrift store, was desparate for a book, so chose a Kirk Mitchell murder/mystery . Loved it, and so read almost all the Mitchell books. When I ran out of those, I discovered the Nevada Barr series. I am rapidly reading through them and am now at book 7 in the series. The stories' heroine is Anna Pigeon who is a law enforcement ranger/ EMT with the national parks. Anna is smart, funny, introspective, and kick-ass when needed. There is action, suspense and danger, especially towards the end of each book. So far, each book has been at a different park, and so that is interesting too. One thing I noticed though, after book three and Anna went "on the wagon", I found myself laughing less frequently. It seems the stories have also dried up. Also, the author started using bigger words (what self-respecting park ranger says words like "somnambulant"?)...
But, all that said, I am hooked. I love Anna, love the stories, the beautiful landscapes, the escape from reality, and so will continue reading the complete series. |
