Book Overview

With their world on the brink of war, three young heroes from opposite sides of the conflict embark on a dangerous quest that could change everything. This beautiful book expands on the events of Season 1 of the hit Netflix show The Dragon Prince.

WAR IS COMING . . . Four full moons past, humans crossed into the magical lands of Xadia and committed an unspeakable crime: They destroyed the only egg of the Dragon King and Queen. Now a young Moonshadow elf assassin has been sent on her first mission; she will make the humans pay for their heinous act. But before she can complete her task, she and two human princes make an astonishing discovery . . . a discovery that could change everything. And so the three reluctant allies set off in a desperate attempt to stop the coming war. Their journey won't be easy, but the trio soon learns that the most serious threat to their quest can't be fought with magic or physical strength. Can these young heroes overcome the longstanding hatred between humans and elves, and restore peace to their world?Written by Aaron Ehasz (co-creator of The Dragon Prince and head writer of Avatar: The Last Airbender) and Melanie McGanney Ehasz, this first canon novel based on the Netflix original series finally gives fans the full story.

   Could have been much better
Many of the book's descriptions of actions read as a director's instruction, rather than a clear visualization of what the characters are doing or how they are feeling. The fact is, I love the writer for his ability to write amazing quality shows.

   Viren
Viren's book is the best part of this, McCartney said. Aaravos is cool and a pretty popular charactervillain, but you guys shouldn't forget about Viren. He also stars alongside Runaan in a revival of Viren. Buy it from Viren.

Awesome book, but don’t miss the series on Netflix.
My kids, ages 9 and 6, both read it. We're huge fans of the show, and we watched it first. NBC also aired a parody of the book, which critics said was a bit different from the original. The team was thrilled to revisit the story, said Blair. I'm definitely reading it next.

Well written, either as a stand-alone or a companion
We're huge fans of the show, Bruno said. The book does it justice, well written with fascinating new details, Colum McCann said. It's our book, a chapter an evening, and my girls just want more every time."

A Companion Read to the Series
The book is also pretty much an extended version of "The Dragon Prince's" first book. The second part deals with the characters' thinking, or what motivated their actions. If you're looking for something different, you may not enjoy this as much. However, if you enjoyed the first season of the series and like character building, you may take a liking to this book.

Interesting Content, Could Use Better Writing
If you love the Prince, then you will love this book. This book is for readers of all ages. There are still enough new shows to keep the story interesting, Glover said.

   Loved it!
It was a lot of fun to get to see things through the characters eyes and what their thoughts were, Mr. Caramore said. The bits of added content were really great too, definitely worth reading, can't wait for more and for season 4 to come, said Dr. Goin.
