   Clear, concise, helpful
Many Dummies books simply recite or regurgitate how to run a particular program, with screen shots and obvious explanations. It explains clearly — and repeats — how you make certain bookkeeping entries and what their effect is on your books. It's not an accounting book, Ernst & Young said. There are a couple of areas where it's not quite prescriptive enough but for the most part it provides enough information for an interested person to sort out just what's going on with the credits and debits, Grassley said. Thanks to Jennette, I found it most helpful to clarify things I have to do as a bookkeeper for my small business.

   Loose but Good
The book goes over some of the bookkeeping stuff that my business degree skipped as well as corporate financial statements that my degree was heavy on. It's confusingly-worded in some parts and doesn't fully explain concepts in others. I just got hired as a bookkeeper and my superiors turn their noses up at this book. But it's overall the best bookkeeping book I've found—beyond one of my old accounting textbooks, even if there is a lot of fluff and filler for what I'm looking for.

   Amazon damaged the book.
The book is great. Now if Amazon employees could put it in the shipping envelope without damaging it, it would be even better.

   Good for bookkeepers
This book is basic and just enough for beginners, without overwhelming them, so they can become bookkeepers if they want to. This may not be the book for business owners who want to understand financial statements their accountants give them but will give a better understanding of what bookkeepers do and how detailed the work can be. The book was organized in an easy to read format, explaining the basics of bookkeeping first, and then going through the process to the closing at the end of the year. But when it came to software, they came up short and didn't mention Xero which is an upcoming product. If you want to learn more about bookkeeping, this is the book for you. If you think so, you won't regret it.

I wish I could have seen more of what was inside the book
It was not helpful because it was geared toward electronics and software development, Raymond said. Handwritten ledgers, pen and ink, make up the basis of my business.
