Botany in a Day is now available in a full-color version. With more than 50,000 copies sold, this is a passport to identifying plants and their uses.
Looking for a faster, easier, and engaging way to identify plants? Related plants have similar characteristics, and they often have similar uses. Rather than learning new plants one-at-a-time, it is possible to learn them by the hundreds, based on plant family patterns.
Each family of related plants has unique patterns for identification. Learn to recognize these patterns, and discover them again and again in the plants you encounter. It is possible to instantly recognize a plant never before seen, and in many cases, to know its edible or medicinal properties on the spot-even before you have identified it down to the species
Botany in a Day is changing the way people learn about plants. A one-day tutorial introduces eight of the world's most common plant families, applicable to more than 45,000 species of plants. Master these eight patterns and have the skills to recognize an astonishing number of plants on any continent. Add to your repertoire by keying out entirely unknown plants and learning additional family patterns.
Botany in a Day is principally written for North America, but used and adored by readers all over the world. It is used as a textbook in numerous universities, high schools, and herbal schools. I really like the concept of this book and had a good ...

Some reviewers said they were misled by Frey's claims. In fact, I was almost twice as good at identifying members of the aster family as I was at identifying Abraham. The only way I was disappointed about it was that the main means for identification came down to a plant's flowers. There were some comments about leaves, fruit, and even petunias, but mostly it talked about flowers.

Excellent book!

I was misled by the name of the plant Botany in a Day because it sounded too basic. I was surprised by just how much information is packed into this book. I use it in my Botany Field class and highly recommend it to anyone.

Learn to identify plants by their flowers.
Derived From Web , May 11, 2021
By the method of identifying plants first by families, it is an extraordinarily difficult and time-consuming task. Though the book gets bogged down by potential varying ideas of evolution, the pictures, definitions, and descriptions of plant families are superb. It is a splendid companion for those beginning plant identification, add detailed enough for the well-educated botanist.

If you ever check out Crime Pays, you'll probably find Dr. Botany's recommendation highly recommended. Even though the book is a tad late, it's an excellent primer. It's just that I'm a huge fan of Pauley's book.

A must have for all botanists and plant nerds!
Derived From Web , Jan 28, 2021
The book is very good. I'm a botanist, and this book is very concise and well-organized. I'm learning so many new plant families and expanding on the ones I already knew. I think this book is a great bridge into using dichotomous keys if you're trying to get good at ID in the field, as well as a great supplement for learning plant morphology and terminology. The illustrations are beautiful, so if you're not about all that other stuff, buy it just for the eye candy.

A must have for ANYONE interested in botany...
Derived From Web , Apr 12, 2018
It was a present from my 7 year old daughter, out of curiosity. Rather than read it all at once, she would savor each passage until she had it committed to memory. Realizing how much my kid was learning, I picked it up and devoured it. Though the book is full of superlatives, its descriptive qualities stand out. It is not a studyguideforyou, rather, it teaches you the way botanists and scientists alike can discern one plant from another. Like many botanists, Mr. Smith was a firm believer in the value of hard work.

I love primitive skills

I'm not a big fan of primitive skills. This is a fantastic book for general and specific plant knowledge, but my primitive side just loves it most.
