Book Overview

For more than sixty years, the imagination of Ray Bradbury has opened doors into remarkable places, ushering us across unexplored territories of the heart and mind while leading us inexorably toward a profound understanding of ourselves and the universe we inhabit. In this landmark volume, America's preeminent storyteller offers us one hundred treasures from alifetime of words and ideas -- tales that amaze, enthrall, and horrify; breathtaking journeys backward and forward in time; classic stories with the undiminished power to tantalize, mystify, elate, and move the reader to tears. Each small gem in the master's collection remains as dazzling as when it first appeared in print.

There is magic in these pages: the wonders of interstellar flight, a conspiracy of insects, the early bloom of love in the warmth of August. Both the world of Ray Bradbury and its people are vivid and alive, as colorfully unique as a poker chip hand-painted by a brilliant artist or as warmly familiar as the well-used settings on a family's dining room table. In a poor man's desire for the stars, in the twisted night games of a hateful embalmer, in a magnificent fraud perpetrated to banish despair and repair a future, in a writer's wonderful death is the glowing proof of the timeless artistry of one of America's greatest living bards.

All of the stories are good
This book took a while to write. Part of this was because it is massive. It you read too much of it in a stretch, then you start losing the beauty of writing. Some of these are science fiction, some are fantasy and others have just a touch of horror. It isn 't the horror that leaves nothing to the imagination, but the one that you know is just going to be unpleasant after the last word. Many of the stories I knew from other collections were still new to me. All of them are good : I'd suggest that if you are reading to reach a goal of X number of books, that you read this until after you reach your goal or that you save it in between books. You 'll want to dip and enjoy it.
   I Loved This Collection
Ray Bradbury has always given me wings, as a teenager and now writer. He does it again with this book. . 99-out-of-100 times
if you enjoy reading you will appreciate Ray Bradbury's short stories
Always Ray Bradbury remains a five-star writer. Whether you are into SciFi fantasy or not, if you enjoy reading, you will appreciate Ray Bradbury's short stories. Pick one up just. You can not go wrong.
   Bradbury is the Master
No one can claim to know fiction of the late 20th century and not understand Bradbury. I look forward to reading them all, all 100-and of course there are many more.
Most were good stories, but as with any short story collection
Most were good stories but as with any short story collection there were a few that I did not like as well.
   Great collection!
This is a new collection, especially if you are good at Bradbury stories!
   Not much Sci Fi here
I made the mistake of assuming that this is all Sci - Fi, not much. It did open my mind to his other writings type. Where his character development was great and I could relate personally to each story and I felt amazed at the nature of humanity depicted. I felt the stories became boring and I'm trying to find something more interesting.
   100 years of Bradbury
Comic - Con schedule cover boy - 100 years of Bradbury attracts me to find a compendium of his short stories. This is an excellent collection for those who have read his works over the years and is a delight to the newly initiated. The trade Paperback - Edition is very well made and is comfortable to hold and read.
   Needs a bibliography
I agree with the five stars of everyone. It is a book to savor slowly, so as not to become overwhelmed with such wonderful stories. The only change I would make would be to know what original book or publication came from the stories. I had to cross reference my five paperback collections with the table of contents of this book to see what stories I had already read. I read them all again, but it would have been handy.
   Mr Bradbury At His Best
You owe yourself the pleasure of reading Ray Bradbury doing what he does best, writing short stories. Some are better than others, but all are good. This book and Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes are my must-read over and over again. Get some hot tea or chocolate, put some chopin and enjoy!
