Book Overview

From New York Times bestselling author Catherine Ryan Hyde comes a gripping and emotional novel about friendship, motherhood, and the journey toward finding a place to call home.

Brooke is a divorced single mom, financially strapped, living with her mother, and holding tight to the one thing that matters most: her two-year-old daughter, Etta. Then, in a matter of seconds, Brooke's life is shattered when she's carjacked. Helpless and terrified, all Brooke can do is watch as Etta, still strapped in her seat, disappears into the Los Angeles night.

Miles away, Etta is found by Molly, a homeless teen who is all too used to darkness. Thrown away by her parents, and with a future as stable as the wooden crate she calls home, Molly survives day to day by her wits. As unpredictable as her life is, she's stunned to find Etta, abandoned and alone. Shielding the little girl from more than the elements, Molly must put herself in harm's way to protect a child as lost as she is.

Out of one terrible moment, Brooke's and Molly's desperate paths converge and an unlikely friendship across generations and circumstances is formed. With it, Brooke and Molly will come to discover that what's lost--and what's found--can change in a heartbeat.

   Excellent book
Book is great! The story is very much loved. Well written, my friend. The characters love to be. The crueldest part is that this story is somewhat accurate. Unfortunately, we have people who are not allowed to have children, but they do and people out there who are so ignorant.

   Touching and amazingly honest
It is worth reading -- 2 strangers can make a family, while the blood family can become strangers. The moments that make us break us not always and this Aurthor lets us see a moment like that!

   Sweet book
This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read in a long time. The descriptions of the small child when she speaks her few words brings her mind the love we should all have for one another. Both of the younger ladies were described so delicately when they were trying to converse with each other.

   Do not reccomend.
Promoting a gay lifestyle. Good writing style and the first section of the book captured my attention before becoming too politically correct.

   Another great story from CRH
I love this author just . She tackles some serious issues and doesn 't make it preachy. She creates characters that are believable and that make me care about them and what happens to them. And she tells the story so that while not everything turns out in the end so that there is still happiness and hopefulness in the ending.

   Really Disappointed
I usually like this author writing, but this was not one of them. Then continue to force yourself on them with your slight distrust.

   lost a child for a day ?
The dialogue is so predictable and somewhat boring. The most emotional part of the book by tbis is the notion of losing my child for a day.

Love the characters in this book
The best girl is always C R Hyde's Brave, and the Quiet Girl is great. Interesting storyline, good characters with all their flaws and great ending. I love how people struggle through misunderstandings that we all experience in our lives. I highly recommend '' this book.

Story that reminds you to keep and open mind
When I see homeless people, I always try to help with a little cash, but I know that many people do not. You never know why they are where they are, and the old addage that you shouldn 't judge someone until you walk in their shoes is absolutely true.

   Wonderful on so many levels!
I predict that this book will become a classic because it speaks to so many different people and so many different levels and issues.
