   Tried and true story
This is a tried and true story. It's great to read aloud to children in the early grades. I consider it to be a story akin to a modern day fairy tale, and have enjoyed it for many years. The book was purchased for our three-year-old granddaughter in England. We wondered if she was a little too young to appreciate the story, but she asked to have it read over and over again. It was a huge success. We only wish we could have been there. An excellent story.

   absolutely love this book
absolutely loved this book. I used it as a mentor and it worked! There is also a video on youtube incase you want to change it up a bit. I love having the book in hand to refer back to certain pages. It has a lot of great vocabulary to boot! This is one of my all time favorite books.

   Teaching Writing
This is an adorable story, but at the same time a great tool for teaching writing to elementary kids!

I have loved this book since I was little!
I love this story, said Blair. It was a blast, and I love that I can share it with my daughters. It's such an empowering story about a little girl that overcomes many obstacles to help her mother, Ava DuVernay said.

Excellent Book, Especially for this Time
My daughter's teacher read this book to her students on the last day of class this year. It was perfect, and showed that perseverance and grit only makes us stronger. After listening to it, I realized this was a keeper for our library.

What a great story, my girls loved it. It has become one of our favorite night time stories. Great pictures accompany the story.

Not appropriate for a young child
I bought this for my granddaughter because Steig writes and illustrates wonderful children's books. However, I wonder about the appropriateness of the passage where Irene contemplates suicide, wondering if she should end her quest by lying down in the snow.

“I want to be just like Irene!”
Steig is one of the best story tellers of all time. Young readers will enjoy this book, too. The illustrations alone bring so much creativity and a chance for discussion with your children, it's just too important. The story is beautiful, too, said Blair.
