This is such a great and practical book! I actually read it three times this summer because there is just SO much to take from each chapter. I am very excited to try some of these techniques in my classroom this year. I'm very excited to try some of these techniques in my classroom. This book addressed very specifically many of the issues I was having in my middle school classroom with students to think for themselves. This is a must-read for any math teacher!

Quick, actionable steps universally designed - life changing
Derived From Web , Jul 4, 2021
I am a book of advice. I am hard on books of advice. This is research-based and a quick read. I explored it in a day and have since binged related groups that are all building thinking classrooms. Some of these items I discovered over the years through trial and error teaching and the rest were new. It is still good to see that what I saw is backed up. It makes it easier to take the leap on the remaining steps. It makes it easier to take the steps listed above.

Fix chapter 15!! Love the book though!
Derived From Web , Jun 30, 2021
I enjoyed this book greatly and the possibilities it could have for my students. This is the most usable guide to changing the environment in my classroom. The only reason I didn 't give it 5 stars is that when I came to chapter 15, I had weird blank squares instead than digits. I wanted to share this book with coworkers but this copy isn 't good enough for what I paid. Hopefully I get an updated and improved version.

GAME CHANGER for your classroom!!! Should be 5 stars^(5 stars)
Derived From Web , Jun 25, 2021
I knew about Dr. Peter Liljedahl's work after reading some of his papers and reviewing his presentations, and I have been incorporating them over the last 4 or 5 years. I hesitated in buying this because I thought I knew a lot about building thinking classrooms, and I am so glad I BOUGHT the book! This book really flushes everything in an extremely practical method. He presents the issue from his research from REAL math classrooms, defines the problem, provides the approach that works, answers your FAQs and summarizes the approach. Change your classroom from students who think for themselves to students who mimic themselves!

Filled with practical and actionable behaviors to improve students thinking in the math classroom.
Derived From Web , Jun 3, 2021
This book is jam packed with actionable steps to improve the thinking and engagement of students. I have almost finished the book, but you can start almost immediately with your classroom. I enjoyed how the author explained how each step was found in classrooms through years of trial and error. The FAQ at the end of each chapter also answers specific questions or thoughts from teachers about this common behavior. This book is an easy read and I cite it for years to come! The best book I bought, which is filled with practical steps to help me move towards a more conceptual learning.

A “must-read†for math teachers.
Derived From Web , May 8, 2021
This is the BEST pedagogical book I have ever read. Thorough research has been done and is occasionally referenced, but he doesn 't bore you with it. Instead, it is a fine-tuned collection of practices that increase student thinking, increase the joy of teaching and eliminates the soul-cracking Monkey see-monkey do '' examples and worksheets - cycle that is so prevalent in math - classrooms across the country. This is now my Bible for Math - Teaching!
