This is not a chronological history account, but a series of short accounts of fictional characters.
   Enjoyed this read.
The book made me imagine how wonderful it must have been to be alive during the civil war. At times it was pretty intense, but it was an intense time in our history. I couldn 't stop '' thinking about the poem War Is Kind by Stephen Crane.
Really good book ''. Read it quickly. Gives insight into what war was like not just to soldiers, but also to the families who sent there loved ones to war in the civil war.
I can sum it up in one word awesome!!!
This is an awesome book! I really liked it and I've tried to be the people in the book. I like to make up voices for the different people in the book. It's awesome to me.
   Made history come to life!
Great historical fiction that we read for our literary homeschool curriculum. The multiple first person accounts, though fictional, were incredibly educational and absolutely fascinating. My 10yo and I finished this book in 2 sittings because I wanted it to last longer, but we could have easily devoured it in one go. After the completion of this curriculum, we planned on selling it to others using this same curriculum, but my daughter insists that we keep this one. Some violencegore and obviously racism from some views because it is a story of civil war, but it was not overwhelming for my sensitive 10yo.
   Great read for all ages.
I bought this to read to my 8 year old, who was very interested in the civil war at the time. I really enjoyed it ''. The chapters are often short and concise and very often written in the vernacular. Great for young readers beginning in the 3rd grade. I recommend highly for kids interested in history to be highly specialized. Didn 't give a full 5 stars because my interest faded after several chapters. I think he didn 't connect emotionally with the narrators. Each story has a new narrator who is such a great idea, but may not draw them in for some young readers. But don 't let my son's lagging interest keep you from reading the book.
