My favorite book of the 5-year-old car enthusiast is My Book of the Year. He requests that I read it almost daily to him since we got it 2 months ago. I enjoy it too - lots of engaging science with a neat presentation. The reading level is adult or teens.

9 year old nephew loves this
Derived From Web , Aug 23, 2021
I bought this for my 9 year old nephew who is new to cars. His mother reports that he and his father have just sat around looking at it together that evening. So it's great for kids and not as savvy as car people alike.

A Thorough Book on the Subject
Derived From Web , Aug 1, 2020
Based on reviews, I bought this book for my five-year-old carpenter grandson. He, however, had little interest in the early part of the book, but liked the photos of vehicles in the back half of the book at that time. This is a book made for the 8+ readership, I think, but as another reviewer said, the younger ones may like looking at the pictures the best.

Great for kids and adults alike

We love this book so far. It is a pretty long book and tackles some pretty complex topics about cars, but does it very well. My husband is the car driver in our family, so I am learning along with my sons and really enjoying how the book is put together. Even my three-year-old enjoys the book. I recommend this to anyone with a car-loving child! One year later and this is still the go to book for my son. I'm guessing that it will continue to be the favorite for many years.

This is perfect for any boy!
Derived From Web , May 11, 2020
I purchased this for my 6 year old son. While some of the concepts and reading is above his level, he loves absolutely paging through it. One of the things I like about it is Car science is a book that has everything from Physics, Chemistry, and mechanics... literally everything about cars, why cars work or where gas comes from, etc. It is well worth what I paid for it, and even my 8 year old who is somewhat advanced loves it for explaining things such as ignition or an engine working. I would absolutely recommend this to any mother of boys.

My son doesn't even like cars - his dad and brother are obsessed with ...

My son does not even like cars - his father and his brother are obsessed with them, so this is how he rebels. I do not want him to grow up on that basis, hating them. Strangely enough, he loves Richard Hammond... he even named his hamster after him, I was not sure he would really enjoy this book, but he was excited about it on Christmas morning. A short while later, he was pulling out facts from the book and even citing the topic at random. He is not as obsessed as his brother and father about cars, but he appreciates and understands them...

It is engaging and has eye-catching illustrations and is presented in a kid friendly format. If you have a youngster in your life who wants to learn more about cars, I recommend this book. Suitable for ages 7-10, but would probably be enjoyed by other ages too.
