Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude is a sustained meditation on that which goes away--loved ones, the seasons, the earth as we know it--that tries to find solace in the processes of the garden and the orchard. That is, this is a book that studies the wisdom of the garden and orchard, those places where all--death, sorrow, loss--is converted into what might, with patience, nourish us.

Wonderful collection. Gay's joyous attention to the loveliness and ...
Wonderful collection! I read it all in one sitting and then came back to it again and again -- for further enjoyment of his languid delivery and tender observations of the world.

One of the most incredible poetry collections ever written. ...
I am amazed at Ross Gay's masterful weaving of ode and elegy, the masterful finding light in the darkest moments, of praising and praising. I carried this with me for an entire year, reading aloud poems to anyone who would let me.

Read this poetry: out loud, in company.
Beautiful poetry of abundant living joy. Such a pleasure to read aloud from it at the Thanksgiving dinner! I read it every time I need to remember to be present for joy and daily wonder.

beautiful, compelling, and rich with meaning
Ross Gay is an original and mystical poet who finds the sheer beauty in ordinary things and seemingly ordinary people. Aloud is even better, read aloud. I have a group of friends, a rotating cast of characters who come together in own yard to read poetry together, some of it their own, but most of them have found favorites. It seems to a different person every time Ross Gay brings out's Catalogue of Unabashed Gratitude and usually takes a different poem to read, and they are all gems.

   Wonderful. Inspiring!
I have a large collection of contemporary poetry, but this is an entirely new perspective, where there are many themes in the Poe poem, giving both macro and micro views. At the end, you realize the tenderness of life, embedded in the heat of each poem. These are true poems of observing life, not just living.

   Such amazing work!
I have been assigned to a college class for a book and I am so glad! It is a powerful work and has touched me in a wonderful way at the risk of sounding melodramatic. I don 't always read my books from school, but this one will go on my bookshelf so that I can read it again and again!

   Sweet
I will often go to the last line of a poem and if it is just too damn depressing, I skip the poem. The poems in this collection are not only uplifting, they are well crafted.

   Authentic and Powerful Voice
I had to rebuy this book after I forgot who I lent my signed copy. Ross Gay is an important and enchanting voice for our time. His poetry is psalm-like in that it guides the human emotional experience from joy to anger to love to sorrow to praise to condemnation in a way that the reader feels he is accessing her own cry.
