May be the most significant work published in all our lifetimes. - LA Weekly
The Chalice and the Blade tells a new story of our cultural origins. It shows that warfare and the war of the sexes are neither divinely nor biologically ordained. It provides verification that a better future is possible--and is in fact firmly rooted in the haunting dramas of what happened in our past.
It takes about 6 Hours and 32 minutes on average for a reader to read Chalice And The Blade. This is based on the average reading speed of 250 Words per minute.
Chalice And The Blade is 304 pages long.

This is mind blowing
Derived From Web , Aug 24, 2021
Can 't believe that was written so long ago and still has so much relevance. It took me much longer than usual to read a book of this length, because I was highlighting passages, reading them aloud to my husband, and having discussions about them, and then applying them to the world around me. It was a lot to take in, every page was packed with ideas and information that I needed to absorb. It gave me tools to apply patriarchal thinking to the staunchly critical culture I grew up in. I wish I could make the Chalice and the blade required reading for everyone so we could think outside the boxes we have been stuck in for so long and really start to solve the big issues facing society in new and more effective ways.

A great book I've read twice, but I don't see how a 270-page book can also be a 2-hour audio book

I added this review to point out that the Audible version is way too short to be a full reading of this text. BUT, since I write this review, I 'll rave along with some of the others. In a few places, I felt that it was a little idealized and that made me take a piece of it with a grain of salt. But I read it twice and gave several copies to academic friends who liked it. I am now on this site because I looked up the link to recommend it again.

mind blowing

I had no idea that there is no historical record of any matriarchal culture, that is a culture where women run the show. It has never existed. The opposite of the egalitarian culture is the dominator model. IOW, the women were not in charge. You can see how and why the dominators took over the world through force and subjugation.

Don't buy the audiobook

The audio quality is so poor I couldn t continue. It is a shame. The problem is not the narrator, it is the recording quality. Then I will buy the printed book.

Particularly relevant in 2018, the year of the woman
Derived From Web , May 16, 2018
This book, recommended and borrowed by my therapist, was my first glimpse at how the narrative of Western history has been shaped by men. It opened my eyes to my implicit and unconscious acceptance of what I had learned in school and what I thought I knew about the role of women in the church. This is more than the victor’ s history - an adage that I thought I understood. This is those in power that write history and for a few thousand years have been men in power in Western civilization. Through scholarship she is pointing out that an egalitarian society is possible and is more emotionally healthy than the violence-enforced patriarchal one we live in today. I then bought my own hardcover copy, which I loan to friends, and then this, the 30th anniversary edition as a Kindle title.

This book changed my life.
Derived From Web , Jan 28, 2018
I am forever in search of books that can shatter my world-view and with this book I met gold. As a man and product of our dominator society, this book helped me understand so much about feminine ethos that I rejected or ignored throughout my life. It helped me realize how behaviors I would have considered innocent before reading this book were actually acts of aggression that have been deeply embedded in me since birth. This book helped me realize that we're all sick and we need to heal ourselves. The recent stream of sexual assault allegations in the news are just high-profile symptoms of deeper and more fundamental social illness. I recommend this book to everyone, but especially to men. We can do better for women and children in our lives.
