I don't understand the reviews of this book. I love historical novels about the Resistance and their fight against the Nazis, but this one was not up to my standards. I ordered the wrong book because the book was slow and had a Christian theme to it so much that I went back and checked. I think this book is more Christian lit because of the Nazi invasion. There are too many characters that are not clearly defined. Chapters switch from one group to another. The reviewers may have liked it, but for me it was not my cup of tea, having just finished reading A Fire Sparkling by MacLean and Dragonfly by Leila Meacham. I think it's a good idea to skip it.

Another winner by Lynn Austin, I just wish I could give it a 10!

My favorite author wrote this book. There is a wonderful history about a sad time in the world. I learned more about the Dutch Resistance. One of the most touching times in the book was when Lena, who was part of the Resistance, struggled with her feelings for the Nazis. She chose to love her enemy. She hugged the soldier and prayed for his family. As I read, I was crying. In times that are beyond our control, don't hate your enemies and trust the goodness and sovereignty of God. Thank you Lynn Austin, keep writing!

Heart rending
Derived From Web , Jun 23, 2021
Every aspect of life was affected by World War II, not just for Jews, but for those who helped them and those who became watchers and reporters, revealing to the Nazis those who were hiding Jews. The Netherlands has been ravaged by war over the last 6 years. We follow Ans and her family, as well as the professor and wife. Ans and Eloise become part of the Resistance and help hide Jews. Lynn Austin paints a realistic picture of the destruction of war as well as the strength that helps the people survive.

Heartbreaking, Overwhelming, Touching, Breathtaking

This book makes me speechless. I don't know where to start because it touched me so many levels. I think this is Lynn Austin's best book. The people of The Netherlands fought for their country's freedom, and this novel is inspiring. I felt joy, I felt anger, and I found forgiveness. I saw how those people held on to their faith and hope even though they went through terrible things. This is a part of history that should never be forgotten. These people need to be remembered. There are two quotes from the book " How can God remain silent and do nothing in the face of all this evil?" she asked. He isn't silent as long as we' re His voice and His hands.

As always.....

Lynn Austin is one of my favorite authors. She brings God to life in her stories and emphasizes how he helps us no matter what. This story is the same. She weaves a story of three different lives that become intertwined. The story of World War II in Holland is beautiful.

Beautiful!

Lynn Austin has written a novel before. The theme of Chasing Shadows is repeated on many levels, ultimately revealing the goodness and faithfulness of God during one of the darkest periods of world history. The characters endure unimaginable grief and loss in WW II. Lynn, thank you for the reminders. I devoured this novel and will read it again.
