But this book is also about beginning readers, and about all the things a beginning reader should know. Sandra Horning weaves non-fiction about raising chickens into a very simple tale that comes full circle. A boy and a girl bring home chicks, care for them as they grow and grow, and eagerly await the hatching of chicks from the eggs of hens they've raised. This one's going to be in my 5-year-old nephew's Easter basket!

Great for toddlers to grow with

When it came time to get baby chicks, I thought it would be neat to start teaching my kids about the life cycle. It's just that they are toddlers so I will have to read this book to them but it is enough for them to understand now. It will be a great book for them to grow with and learn to read with their friends. A great glossary. I also purchased the butterfly life cycle and frog life cycle. The Beatles' music "was great value for money," said Gillian Kent, director of music for the Postal Service.
