Surprising content…

Very sweet book and well-made, but I wasn 't expecting same-sex relationships in the book. I have seen one so far, but I was not prepared to have that conversation with my five-year-old yet... I wish there would have been some kind of disclaimer that would have alerted parents that it was there.

Great book; interesting information about children from other countries and cultures.
Derived From Web , Oct 6, 2021
Lots of colorful pictures of other children around the world, giving a glimpse of life as a child in their respective countries. The book breaks the world by continents and has a decent amount of children from each. This book is a great introduction to children about how children all over the world want basically the same things.

Great, but very inferior to 90s version
Derived From Web , Sep 17, 2021
The 90s version of this book was my favorite book as a child by far. So much so that 25 years later I can still tell you Edgars nickname, the town where Rositas teacher gave her a wallet and what Ngwaiata dreams most when she grows up. I was so excited to get this new version ''. Anyone seeing it independently of the first book will love it, but if you compare the amount of information, Book 1 was more detailed waaaaay. I find myself reading this one and saying : the whole way to Bahrain for 4 sentences?! '' ?

It's meh
Derived From Web , Jun 13, 2021
The 1994 version is much more appropriate for Christian homeschoolers. While it is different, it is more appropriate and allows for conversation about outdated families around the globe. Not sexual status or marital status of adults. It is about the children. The information is accurate, each page layout was thought well. It is a public school for good teachers. It is overall meh. Neither bad nor good.

Disappointment
Derived From Web , Oct 7, 2020
This is my least favorite. I thought DK would provide countries, but they are very selective and very few countries are mentioned. The content is seriously lacking. This one is major, let down. If you know of any good books about children around the globe, let me know.

7 year old LOVES this book!
Derived From Web , Sep 18, 2018
My 7 year old daughter loves this book absolutely - she sits to read it and looks through every single day! We have the updated version and she loves to see their signatures, how they say hello, and what their families, homes and schools look like. Even for children too young to read yet, it is great to look at. Already bought a second copy to gift to my niece of 6 years old.

The pictures are beautiful and each page has interesting information about that country ...
Derived From Web , Nov 14, 2017
The pictures are beautiful and each page has relatable information about that country with interesting details that help you to see how much we have in common with people around the world. I am grateful that they show a variety of family structures. Most families shown have two parents and two children, but there are some examples of families with a child or several children and some families with a single parent.

Good introduction for children to relate their lives and environments to others
Derived From Web , Oct 25, 2017
I love this book ''. While it is aimed at the 7-10 age group, I used it to introduce my four-year-old grandson to the concept of different cultures. He loves looking at the different children in the book, seeing how they write their names, seeing the interests he shares and noting differences. For his pre-K class, he had to present a poster about his parents'cultures and this was the perfect introduction to get him excited and interested in this project.

Not nearly as great as the first edition.
Derived From Web , Jun 3, 2017
A weak follower in the series. One of the strengths of the comparative edition was that it showed children from all over the world, some of whom live in first poverty. But this fact was not overtly inferred, but could easily be mentioned from the pictures of their living arrangements. Here I understand that politics is at work --- and nobody wants to reinforce stereotypes about regions or countries being continually impoverished -- but the children in this new edition seem to be all part of highly educated, relatively similar income families. Naturally, there are some exceptions, but much less diversity than in the first edition. One more feature -- there is less text and information about families and their culture. In general, this issue is not as informative as the first edition.
